If the pump manufacturer (Goulds) doesn't require it then it is not required.

I know you don't want to hear this, but it is like the fox guarding the hen house. Goulds doesn't want it to last too long, or they wouldn't be selling VFD's in the first place. They may say RFI, harmonics, and reflective wave voltage is not a problem, but they like to sell pumps, motors, and VFD's. You will have to research these things somewhere else. We are not just talking about noise from a speaker, but the life of your pump system.

Please STOP, just STOP. I don't want to get into another VFD debate with you. You CONSTANTLY do that. I know you are always in a 100% constant selling mode for CSVs but I don't want to debate the issue.

I'm a licensed ww guy. I use wire nuts all the time in a junction box just above the well head. This is where I transition from submersible pump cable to the wire running to the power source. I like to use thhn especially if going into conduit. Seal em up and tape them good.

I assume you put the wire nut connections within a PVC or steel junction box?

Doesn't THHN wire have a thinner PVC insulation? I was told that the thinner insulation can often lead to a current leakage.

I didn't say anything about a CSV. I studied and used VFD's for years before the CSV ever existed. And I would not even use a CSV on a pump system like yours. So if you don't want to know about wire insulation and current leakage, stop asking. Otherwise I am obliged to tell you that nearly all electric wire has insulation rated for up to 600 volts. However, the pulsing DC voltage and reflective wave coming from a 230 volt VFD will produce over 1000 volts to the wire and the motor, even with the filters and reactors they add to try and mitigate this problem. A 480 volt drive would send 2000+ volts to the wire and motor. So you really need 1KV or even 2KV wire, and the shielding does help. Even the wire in the motor is not rated for that much voltage. Research "Corona Discharge". Or if you don't want to know, don't do the research.

Just got done doin' a 10 hp. submersible pump and I use something called insulated connectors, I know that sounds really generic but they're a insulated block that has allen head set screws and have little rubber plugs that cover the set screw holes. I used deoxide paste on them as well. That's what I was told to use by the electricians that do this for a living. They cost about $10 apiece. Probably have to get them from a electrical whosale house. They're two styles one is a straight thru and the other is a 90 degree. Lowes box store people had never heard of them. bjr
