Attach heavy eye bolts to the ends of two 6 x 6's where you angled the front ends, stick them under the PT, attach some chains to the PT (for example, hooks on the tub and binders to tighten the chain) to hold the skids in place, pop off the wheels and drag it out. With your particular tractor, you could hook chains to the tow hooks that were welded on. With the flat bottom, you could almost get away with no skids but it would be pretty easy to snag a wheel motor on something so be careful even with skids. Even better would be a set of skids for the front and a set for the back. Then you could steer it out. Given how you use yours, make nice ones since you will be using them again.

Hey guys.

First BRILLIANT idea on the hose. The hose that might have failed is 116 inches Might need a bit longer than 10ft to work around problems but great idea.

Second, talked to Terry. First, TRAM PUMP TOWING - INFINITE DISTANCE - as long as you do the following - do it slow. Pay attention to steering. If you turn the wheel it takes some of the pumped up pressure off your brake line (Mine has automatic brakes that need to be pumped manualy to pressurise the release).

As for Field vs shop repair. Cleanliness is next to godliness. This is where I am stumped. Will I do more dammage towing a tractor or busting my hump in the dirt trying to keep it clean. Given I have to go through many ravines to get home, I am worried I am going to mess this bad boy up. At the moment I am leaning toward field repair using the long hose method to get me out.

The final note is that my shop is a dirt floor. sucks to be me in a huge way.

One nice thing with PT's is that even if it is a wheel circuit, you could isolate the two motors on that circuit and drive it out. The hard part as you mentioned is knowing which circuit it is.

I'd try the field repair if you're on a relatively level spot. Have some plastic baggies, a roll of wide tape, and some kind of solvent with you, so you can clean oily parts and cover them with baggies and/or tape. A rubber band tightly around a baggie on a hose end keeps it clean. If you can't put a baggie over a connection or fitting, clean it with solvent and put tape over it. Try to clean every connection before you loosen it - a portable air tank could be real helpful if you have one, to blow compressed air around the dirty fittings.

You've probably already thought of all these things, but they're things I've done...

It goes without saying.... oh heck, no, it has to be said! It's me you're dealing with...

Be sure to check the level in the hydraulics tank before you power it up again and after each repair/patch. That fluid can leak out and soak away without leaving much of a trace.

So was pushing dirt around, probably the most strenous activity the PT faces these days and I heard a Boom, kind of like a balloon going off in a hallway. I then smell oil. Look down and there is a huge puddle. Quickly back up to a safe spot and shut down.

Hose in the tunnel? Horrors.

But didn't you just replace all those hoses last year or the year before? Maybe time to go to your local hydraulic hose dealer and ask for your free-bee replacement.

I had to do a field repair on hose to wheel motor. Laid stuff down on the ground and plastic bags with rubber bands, coupler to connect the good and bad hose to pull it thru. I didn't have a chicken to sacrifice, but it seemed to work out.

And a little salt over the shoulder, too.

Day X Report -

Woke up and was on the phone with Terry, as relayed above. Then the wife walked by with the keys to the truck (Currently we are a one car family in Washington because we are traveling so much for work it doesn't make sense until today). She returned at 11. I got into the truck and went to my local Hydraulic store that is worth a darn, which is a half hour away. Bought $400 in hoses,

2 3.4" wheel Motor Hoses $90 a piece

a 13' emergency hose, 1/2" with adapters to go to 3/4"

A 10' 1/4" hose with adapters to go up to 3/8

a 5' 1/4" hose cause 10ft is long

So $400 down.

Got back home after a run by the store for 5 gallons of oil.

Loaded the quad up with gear and tools, got ready to take off and a friend from Los Angeles showed up. 2PM get up and unhook the hose that I am sure is the problem. Get the 13' hose connected on one end and now I have to head ot the dentist. Back from the dentist at 5P. Dozer buddy says he is standing by but won't make the run up the hill unless needed. Connect the other end of the hose (Remember, in a ravine, as acrow flys 500 ft to the house, as a quad drives 1200 at least). OK, hose on, 6PM. And turn the enging and the oil pours out.

Cursing, examinging , grunting. No physical way, even with a mirror and flashllight to identify the culprit. Hook the old hose back up on one end, and go the the engine pump on the other and I can't get it to connect. It is SUPER stiff (A bad purchase, a 4000 PSI hose when a 3000 was all that was needed). I will get it but the sun set and the tears blocked my vision.

Frustrated, but going to call Terry tomorrow and discuss capping one end to see if I can just get it to shut off. Running a fixer hose is way too much work when I now have no clue what of the 20 hoses it is.
