Hey everryone. So here is my honest report of my day today. Its a doozy.
Talked to Terry this morning. Again. Guy loves me. need to find his favorite booze and send him a bottle. But he said the same thing, pull up the hoses, you will find the leak.
So I went up and I finished my "Turn one hose off" trick I was doing to test the wheels. That took me to lunch. Called Terry on the way into town to get a burger cause I was so miserable I didn't want to be on the farm. He asked me for some detail, mainly why I can't see my hoses. I told him the blue cover is in the way. He said cut it out and removie it. God I hate smart people.
So got back, cut out the plastic and was able to get a much better view. Took well over an hour or two to track it down but it was.... drum roll.... The 3/4 Hose that I swear I had disconnected alread once. Guess I overlooked that one drive wheel hose. Swear I had undone it but nope... And the bonus is it failed because the blue stuff was never protecting it and it was rubbing on the metal.
But now it gets interesting. So I follow the hose. Front wheel Right back to Rear Wheel Righht. I double check and then disconnect and put my emergency hose on. Its probably about 6PM now. But I am much more elated. I put a plug in the hose just in case I am wrong and it is not the hose I think it is.
Turn on the tractor. Get on my hands and knees in the tunnel. look under.. NO LEAK. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Run around to the other side and hear water rushing. WTF. Look down. I have disconnected the wrong hose. I disconnected the hose running from the tram pump and not the hose running from the front wheel. Oil is like Old Faithul shootup up and all over the engine. Quickly turn it off. Another very oily hour and I have the emergency hose on. Oh and one half hour was spent trying to hook the oils supply hose back up to the wheel motor. Why might you ask, because I spent that time turning the hose cap the wrong direction. And cursing, and wedged into the engine compartment under the huge oil filter that is always in the way.
Drove the quad to the house, got the wife and went back. Tractor worked just like a charm and I walked back home. Tomorrow pressure wash and two new hoses.
In the end the area I left what looks like a hazmat site. I know I went through 8 gallons of oil trying to find this leak.
Oh and to correct the rubbing that is going to continue to go on, I got this plastic protective tray from the guys at my hose supply place (they specialize in logging gear) so I will cut this up and wedge it in there. should keep ti honest.
I took only two pictures, one of me crying and the works site.
