Now I have walking pneumonia!!

I have got so much to do this fall and the PA at the walk in clinic said I would be out of circulation for 8-10 days.

Tore the slip clutch out of the old Ford mower and have parts coming Tuesday. Need to get 24 acres mowed and that is hard to do on a 22-hp Kioti with a 5' mower and very small rear tires. The old Ford is only a foot wider but three times as fast without beating you half to death.

Gotta babysit a six and a two and a half year old five days while parents gone on second honeymoon.

My retired life is getting me farther and farther behind. Wife is going to have to pick up the slack.

Back in November I had the flu...went to work

The flu turned into 103 temperature...went to work

The 103 turned into pneumonia...went to work

After more than a week of this my wife told me to go to the clinic. They said they couldn't help me and that I can call my wife or take an ambulance to the emergency room. Four days later I left the hospital

Moral of the story is don't mess with pneumonia. It literally kicked my *** and I'm a healthy 47yr old in decent shape. I was in an isolated ward full of people with pneumonia and they all looked like the walking dead. I'm self employed so getting out of there was my #1 priority and I left without their blessing but it all worked out

They told me it could take 6 month to feel 100% which I scoffed at. They weren't that far off

Yep... I've done that twice. First time I was 50 and took it right to the edge. Doc said I was a walking miracle for not dying. Second time was this past winter. I knew the symptoms and went for antibiotics. Doc said rest for four weeks... yeah, OK, I'm in the middle of a 14week build in Pittsburgh; days were rough, but I made sure I got plenty of rest after work.

Lots of older people with weakened systems get pneumonia and it contributes to their demise. My 91 year old father-in-law fought it off earlier this year. it took a lot out of him.

While I can appreciate the tenacity of people that can work through an illness, and recognize that some folks cannot afford to miss work.... I stay the heck home if I'm contagious/sick. It's not fair to anyone I might come into contact with to jeopardize their livelihood so I can maintain mine.

I post stastus in good morning thread. Slowly getting better. Getting lot more leg movement now. Was able to stand for a minute the other day, holding myself up with arms. I use wheelchair for now. In Univ MD acute rehab facility, 2 PT and 1 OT session a day. Been here 3 wks.
Only took 5 days to lose ability to walk. Projected to go home 23rd, for in home therapy. Have. Lots of nerve pain in hands and fingers.

I was on my 2nd pneumonia meds when rhis struck me july 6th.

I hope you have a quick complete recovery. Makes me think that I'm actually follow the doctor's instructions for once and stay in for the 8-10 days recommended.

On a more humorous note, last week I managed to slam my hand in a door to a freight type elevator, and then the door locked shut because the elevator left the floor. Won't go into details, but was stuck there for about 45 seconds before I got free. Index finger was over my middle finger and pointing at my pinkie and then the blood starts coming from every nook and cranny. Let me tell you, when you see something like that, the first thing you think to yourself is "Well, that don't look right."

4 weeks in a cast with 3 pins in my finger and i'll be good as can be expected.

I know you wrote that to be funny but I can actually feel the pain. Hope it heals quickly.

Standing there watching my hand stuck in the door and feeling the pressure and blood I was kinda sure I amputated something. Didn't hurt that much at all. Took some ibuprofen after the ER visit and one Vicodin after the surgery, but didn't need it. It doesn't hurt. It itches like heck, though!!!
