Went to another gun shop in Paducah KY today. Looked at a Hi-Point 9mm and just could not make myself buy it. The pistol was a brick. Dealer said it was "ugly, but dependable". Price was $199 with a holster. Then I noticed a great looking automatic under the glass with a sale sticker on it for $309.99. It was a Kahr CT9. Dealer said it is a Glock clone but made in the US and far cheaper. The gun felt like the Glock 43 I handled a couple weeks ago. Single stack magazine, holds eight rounds. He had the display model and one in the box in the back. About that time my wife called and I had to go pick her up. After I picked her up we went to a large national chain store (Gander Mountain if you must know) and the same Kahr was $449. Made it back to the original store original store an hour later and had to take the display gun. The other one already sold. Said they sold four of those today. While I was standing there filling out my paperwork they sold a S&W 642 with laser, guy buying it for his wife, a SCCY for a lady who had never shot a gun before, she was very determined and was coming back for CCL classes, I sensed a story there but didn't ask. They sold a 1911 type at the other end of the counter and what appeared to be a large Glock but that girl and guy were too far away to tell for sure. So in the space of about thirty minutes they sold five handguns, two to women.

Anybody else got a Kahr?

Grip fits my hand perfectly and my wife can grip it too. This will be my go to the woods and tractor gun. The one I'll take when I'm going where there are no people and I don't need to carry concealed. Although I guess it could be carried in a pocket or IWB holster that is not my intent.

They're made in Massachusetts. Their HQ was in NY but they left due to the "SAFE Act" legislation. They aren't "Glock clones" but are striker fired.

The company was founded by the son of the founder of the Unification Church, AKA "Moonies." But the company is run by gun industry pros and they also own Auto Ordnance.

Kahrs are very popular as "backup guns" for deep concealment. They have a good reputation for quality. The CT9 is one of their "Value Series" guns.

I have 3 Kahr's. They are excellent pistols, and so much more gun than what you went in to buy it is not even funny. The slide on the Kahr, is made of actual steel, yes steel that is precision machined. The slide on the Hi-Point is made of Zamak. That is pot metal for those of you that don't know. A zinc alloy that is cast in a mold. The Hi Point is a blowback operated firearm, Yes it does not lock up at all, it just relies on the heavy Zamak slide mass for the delay in ejecting the cartridge case. That and a heavy spring.. For your $110, you went from a facsimile of a firearm to one of the finest pistols made. The CT9 is the lower cost model of the Kahrs, with some cosmetic finishing steps omitted to save a few bucks but the heart of the pistol is the same as all of them. Yes you made a good choice.

I don't know man, lots of better options out there for under $300 at Academy Sports. Taurus Millenium G2 for one.

It was a fine choice, and a decent price. $450 is way too much if it was the exact same gun.
It's quite a stretch to call Kahr "one of the finest pistols made" but it should suit you well.
As mentioned, there were other good options as well, and some even cheaper. But I don't think you'll be disappointed.

In no way is a Kahr a Glock copy.

Just an FYI, the Taurus Millenium G2 9mm is $279.99 right now at Academy Sports and then on top of that is a $50 rebate from Taurus. That makes that pistol only $229.99. I'll be right back, going to guy buy one.

They seem to work pretty well as Trayvon Martin found out.

I will stand by my "one of the best" statement. It is well made and "best" is an opinion and will have different meanings to different people. I agree that a Kahr is not a Glock clone, though they do share some similarities, but there are some major differences. Both are good firearms, and both are head and shoulders above a Hi Point. Travon Martin was shot with a Kel Tec.

Well I put about thirty or so rounds thru it this morning. One of the reviewers on a web catalog said to load the mag the night before and I see why. That is one stiff spring. It shot slightly to the left but that can be adjusted and I am probably the problem due to trouble with my right eye, having to aim with my left one. I know it isn't a high capacity like some people want but it fits my large hand perfectly, also my wife's smaller hand.

Have been cruising the web ammo sites for the last month and it seems like there is a run on ammunition. Gonna order everything from 9mm, 380ACP, 38 Special, to 12 guage and 410 #4 shot (see my post on The Squirrel Wars). Finally resorting to a spreadsheet with prices and shipping costs and will probably end up ordering from two or three different sites. What a pain in the......rear.

Good day everyone.

Treat yourself to an UPLULA loader. They seem to me to be rather expensive for what they are, but after one use, particularly with a stiff magazine, you will not care about the cost.

I bought Kahr PM9 and P40 over a dozen years ago, both top end poly models with Glock-like polygon vs land/groove rifling and dovetailed vs pinned sights of the CW and CT lines. Newer Kahrs also have sported some 'carry bevel' that my early Ps lack. Build quality, fit & finish are tops in either case. Had I to purchase again I'd go for the less pricey cut-rifled versions, if only to allow practice with cast lead, and both 9s vs one in .40 S&W.

PM9 (also CW9) carries much like the Kel-Tec P3AT. P40 carries Much like the Makarov but is slimmer, lighter and kicks twice as hard. Both are reliable and surprisingly accurate esp considering their short barrels.

btw, I fired several Taurus semi-autos (.40 & .45), long before the company's trigger troubles, and was impressed by their accuracy and ability to cycle a wide variety of bullet nose profiles, but might as soon carry their '905' 9mm revo. (Big fan of the brand, esp G2 series)

IIRC it's Diamondback that is bringing out a 'Glock clone', promised to be reviewed soon in Gun Tests alongside the latest from Canik, but IMO it's Springfield XDs that fit, feel, shoot the most better than they look. Trouble is (and consensus here supports) there are far too many good carry options to offer advice or criticism.

All that said, "good on ya" for a 'good pick' with the Kahr! (expect 50-100 rds to 'break in' and smooth things up a bit from 'new') tog
