West Coast Smoke, UGH!

Up to state government, not Federal and interestingly, the states that burn up regularly are governed by snowflakes / greenies.

Proper forest management eliminates and greatly reduces fire risk and if a fire does occur it's much more easily controlled with the forest floor isn't loaded with brush and dead wood.

Cannot have it both ways despite what the tree huggers/greenies/snowflakes think.

Maybe the answer is to vote for government that encourages the removal of forest fire wood fuel from the forest floor?

That leads to forest soil depletion and severe erosion.

We live in Northern San Diego county and the closest fire to us is about 60 miles but the smoke cover for the past week has cut our solar production between 10 to 25 KWH per day and we get a light coating of ash every day.

No comment on solar power. IOW, don't care.

Hey it wasn't me that peed in your Wheaties this morning. The reason we have solar is totally a matter of self defense. When "The Messiah" was elected he made a speech early in his term where he stated" Under my plan utility prices will necessarily sky rocket". One of the few times I believed him or any other politician. Our illustrious governor, Nanny Moonbeam, jumped right on the bandwagon as did the state P.U.C. commission and our local power company said they were going to raise our rates 30% in the near future. Right about this time my wife received a healthy check in the mail from the stock brokerage that was handling some stocks she inherited from a great aunt who passed away 40 years ago. The wife never did anything with the stocks in all that time so they cashed her out for lack of activity. We didn't have any idea what to do with this pennies from heaven windfall until all this utility pricing talk started so we invested in solar and got a 30% credit on the money rather than pay taxes on it.

I am about as far from being a tree hugger as anyone you know but I do what I can to defend myself from the high cost of living out here in the land of fruits and nuts. This climate is the best in the continental U.S. but the sunshine tax is high and getting higher.

We've been hearing about the smoke for some time now and keep getting air quality warnings but none of it has materialized yet. We're located in the centre of the southern half of B.C. Watching the news, I've become nervous about forest fires for the first time in my life.

It's down to about 100 yards visibility where I live. Feels like the 70's when we would heat our house with the fireplace and all the relatives would sit around smoking in the living room. Kind of nostalgic in a ...cough .... cough sort of way.
