Back on August 25, 1996, I was moving our entire school district administration and operations from scattered sites into a new 155,000SF headquarters in the Coachella Valley. Temperature that day on my car thermometer read 126*. Now the official temp that day was a few degrees lower, but…OUCH.... First time ever I have seen these temperatures in California....
I was surprised that we didn’t lose a few movers to heat stroke as they were in and out of semi’s all day with heavy loads.
We had no choice as we had to be up and running for the new school year.
Unfortunately we did lose an final cleanup worker at a new elementary school a couple of years later. She had heat exhaustion and paramedics were called to treat her. She refused to be treated and died later that day. Sad.
