whack of firewood

Love your rig, your pictures and your posts, Woody, but I just gotta get my terminology straight here. It took me long enough to determine exactly how much wood is in a cord, but I've never heard of a whack.

Since my dictionaries don't have a wood-oriented definition either, I'm guessing it simply refers to a load of logs that you just "whacked"?

Or is it more specific than that?

Trivia/etymology fans want to know.

There's also a chord too. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Harv, I'm not familiar with a whack of logs either, but does your dictionary have some of the other more common logging vernacular such as a jackpot, or a barberchair. Or maybe a jammer or a grabinski. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Got a link here for a web page for words associated with logging, transportation, forest engineering and silviculture.

I use whack interchangeably with a whole bunch, a ton of, a whole mess of, and such. I'm unaware of any specific meaning it may have in the forestry business.

Uhhh... yeah, but aren't we talking about stacks of wood here? (I must be missing your point. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif)

Good web page glossary you referenced. I bookmarked it for future use. Still leaves us to haggle over what a "whack" is, though. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Oops, bad joke on my part Harv. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif In the logging glossary same pronunciation but different terminology. That's all.

My apologies

James,

Just out of curiosity, what type of chainsaw(s) do you run?

You have a very nice setup there. I'd like to do some lumbermaking in the not too distant future myself.

The pic may not be to clear... I have a couple dozen trees down that I need to cut & split. We are going to build here in May...
