The only time I seen trees cut like that for the dozer to pop the stumps out w/ease or deep snow.
Wondering if you plan on going back and lowering your cut.

Thomas, You're right. Those stumps are coming out with a dozer, though the guy will be bringing out a trac-hoe also. I have around 40 stumps to take out & 300' of drive to put in.
Wondering if you plan on going back and lowering your cut. <font color=blue>
I'm not sure what you're asking???

Just wondering if you plan on re cutting closer to the base of the tree,or were you leaving the cuts that high for the dozer to pop the stumps out.

The stumps will be left as they are until after they are taken out of the ground by the dozer or trachoe & then I will cut the trunk off. We are planning to bury or burn the stumps. I may start another post as a timeline of photos as the land is transformed. We have already cleared 1 acre, but lost the original pics... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Wow, I sure do like the look of that extra safe lid you got there. Somehow I think the standard rops are lacking when working on hills around trees and large rocks. I keep imagineing it rolling and getting pinned up against something!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

shade, the forwarder and my firewood processor would make quick work of that mess.
the canopy on the tractor is FOPS to keep the widowmakers from makin my lovely wife a widow. that along with skid plates under and brush screens around are part of the forestry package from les dristributors payeur that you may have seen in magazine ads. they also sell the wheeler over the road log loading trailer.

Interesting, as I bought my Stihl Farm Boss in '75 too. It still is as dependable as the day I bought it. Great saw, 20" Windsor bar. Has sawn a lot of wood over the years, prabably averaged 7-8 cord of wood a year, with 12-14 MBF of hardwood sawlogs thrown in. Have thought about an 028 several times, but figured I should wear this one out (or get worn out by it), whichever comes first.
