I purchased my Kubota front mount snowblower second hand a couple weeks ago. The first photo was the condition it was in when I bought it. The paint had been worn off of the fan housing and chute. Shortly after I bought it we had our first snow of the year and ran the blower. Running snow through it took most of the rust off, and mostly cleaned the chute and housing to bare metal.
I picked up a POR rust prevention kit from Advance Auto
Advance Auto Parts - Down for Maintenance
The kit includes the three steps (degreaser, etch prep, and the paint itself). Since there was a mixture of clean bare metal and rust, I used all three components of the kit.
I brushed on two coats of the POR and final coated with Rustoleum implement spray paint in Kubota Orange. (important to follow the steps, as POR recommends recoating while the paint is still tacky and not fully cured for best adhesion).
The blower sat for about a week, so the paint was fully cured. Then we got our next snow. It's only one snow, but I was impressed with how well the paint stayed intact. The orange paint only very slightly wore off inside the fan housing. Otherwise the paint stayed fully intact, even on the edges of the auger. I am blowing paved driveways so not much gravel / debris going through the blower. I suspect the Orange paint may begin to wear off over time, but hoping the POR stays intact as long as I'm not running gravel through it.
Before and after photos for reference.
