Electric would be the cats meow. The weight of the batteries would be a plus and those electric motors are torque monsters.

I would guess they might be 24V or 36V like the current big fork lifts. We will have to have equivalent portable generators to drag out to the work area to recharge the batteries. What a BUMMER. There will be no emissions for the Feds to worry about.

I'm certain, though, they will figure out something to control...............

Re: What痴 new in tractor models for 2018?

I have a dim recollection of reading about an FFA chapter that had converted an 8N to electric power. My brief Google search didn't turn up that story, but I did turn up articles about other conversions: e.g., Farmers converting old tractors to electric - SFGate.

Electric makes a lot of sense if they can keep the cost reasonable. As Randy stated, unlike in cars, we want weight in tractors. In the SCUT and CUT market not many users will work a machine more than 8 hours a day. Imagine how quite it would be. Battery replacement will be the real issue. Tractors last for decades....batteries....not even close.

6 cylinder 200+ Horsepower.

Looks like they are running 3 years behind according to this article. Original target was 2016.
Kubota plans 2hp tractor - Farmers Weekly

And u got us all excited...I thought they were going to install a cookie/cocoa dispenser (CD) like the sleigh in The Santa Clause.:licking::laughing:

Kubota is up to something, and it's going to be a BIG deal when the pull curtain back :)

I think I found it on Kubota's Japan website. It says .... "People who eat farmers, everyone cheerfully" then "Farmers, people to eat, everyone energetic".
Edible, cheerful, energetic farmers - how about that ! A new cannibal market, like Soylent Green.

+1....... On the batteries my thoughts exactly....just need to use/develop a long life, inexpensive battery.

On the torque, guess what every diesel locomotive on the rails today uses to drive it's wheels.......a traction motor, AC or DC, driven by that diesel engine..... Some of the newer engines built by GM and GE run 4400 hp (GE ES44 AC or DC) and have 6 driven axles. Think about the weight a 100 car train, like goes from the E-W coast, or a coal train coming out of Montana. Think about the torque required to get all those millions of pounds of whatever rolling, and up and down hills and through mountain passes like the Cajun Pass near Cajun, CA. Mind boggling.
