What a Joke! GM and its latest recall.

What I notice that nobody seems to do here is use electrically heated glass (except rear windows on some hatchbacks). In Europe, most Ford Focus vehicles and diesel vehicles in particular have electrically heated front and rear glazing which means that you never need to blast the windshield with hot air while your feet are freezing and the defrosting is very even across the full area too.

Ford used to have this heated windshield option in the late 80's or early 90's, I think on the Taurus and Sable and maybe the Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis and some Lincoln models. Too many years ago for me to remember exactly.

Chris, let's be honest. If Ford did this you wouldn't be talking about it. Any post having to do with trucks is loaded with GM bashing by you. This is just another opportunity.

A windshield washer heater? Why was one ever needed in the first place.

You know nothing about me. If this was to happen to either of my Ford trucks or my Nissan I would be on that dealers lot every Saturday making sure every customer who walked near the place heard about it.

If something is not right its not right, no matter who makes it. If they build it, sell it, they should be able to fix it. Period.

I believe they also offered it on some of the SUV's a few years back.

If I remember correctly, there were numberous issues with that option. Good idea though, wish it would have panned out.

Sometimes these off the wall options don't work out. The sun will still come up tomorrow. i hadly see this as a real issue. A ben franklin for an option most people probably didn't even know that they had. At least the frames didn't rot out like Toyota had to deal with a couple of years ago.

In that same spirit, a manufacturer of anything should not be defeated by a simple issue. It is probably cheaper for GM to pass out $100 bills in this case and considering their current financial circumstances, but it doesn't give a consumer the warm fuzzies. Certainly a lack of the 'can do' pride in one's work.

A disabled fluid heater, I never knew they existed :) is not the end of the world, but I have to agree with Chris, if you sell it you should be able to fix it. It's the principle of the issue, not the perceived usefulness of the item that counts.
Dave.

I never knew they existed either. I just buy anti-freeze washer fluid... and I used to live in South Dakota.

No heated WW option on my truck but it does have heated mirrors and the rear window is heated also. And it is a Florida purchased truck that sees use in Ohio in the winter. A little Winter Washer fluid on the windshield before starting breaks the wipers free while the engine warms up the compartment.

As for the recall, Toyota's fix for the throttle is to remove the carpets and blame the throttle maker. Ford's fix for the Exploders was to blame the tire maker and put worse tires on and tell the owners to run the tires at the correct pressure. Even though before they had told the owners to lower the tire pressure for a smoother ride. So GM isn't starting anything new.

Relax. You're right, I don't know anything about you, I'm just pointing out the obvious. You bash GM at every opportunity, go back and read your own posts..

Whatever. If that's your thing, keep going.

I won't bash Ford or Nissan. Never have and never will and I have plenty of ammo to do it.

Every manufacturer has their issues, I used to work for Honda. They did a fine job of hiding their problems, GM isn't as good at the PR game.

I think these guys used to make a heated WW system; but it doesn't appear on their web site now, or I can't find it. Rostra Precision Controls, Inc.

I would like to have heated windshield washer fluid and other systems besides the traditional defroster as all of the fluids available to me tend to freeze into a thin film of ice while driving that makes for a fun drive, especially at night. I swear the stuff seems watered down to the point where it won't freeze in the tank in a parked vehicle; but beyond that is near useless in winter.

I would love to have heated mirrors too. My wife's CRV has heated seats, and what few times I've been in the thing in winter, they are nice.

As an avowed GM basher myself, GM is taking the cheesedick way out on this. But as another poster mentioned; they all do a song and dance of some sort. However, if GM can't fix simple items such as this and the air intake; why should I have any confidence in them to fix anything correctly?

BTW, didn't J.C. Whitney have a heated WW fluid system many years ago that consisted of nothing more than a coil of washer tubing that one wrapped around the top radiator hose to capture heat from the return water before it went into the radiator?
