What about a GMC pickup is different than a Chevrolet pickup?

nybirdman, I had a 1997 Buick LeSabre. Let me just say, that was the nicest, most comfortable dxxx car I ever had. It was like going down the road on a couch. It screamed as well, with the 3800 V-6.

The 3800 engine in my opinion was one of the best ever built. As you said had tons of power and still got over 30 mpg!! Plus it held up really well. Was definitely a winner!!

The 3.8, 4.3, 5.7,6.0, will add the 6.5 and 6.6 diesels, I have found all of these to be excellent engines. Even the 2.2 in my S10, kind of a slug, but I would trust it to go anywhere.

I was talking to a coworker today at my DPW job, where most of our small trucks are Chevrolet, which he usually specs out. He said back in the 1960's and 1970's, Chevy and GMC had two engine lineups, nowadays its mostly emblems and trim packages. He also said that Chevy always will price beat a GMC.

Again as a GM retiree;I had always thought GMC was just a dressed up Chevy;I worked with some production people that worked at a truck assembly plant and asked that question. As I stated before they told me that GMC quality control was higher than Chevrolet and they are different.Of course they use mostly the same parts and are built on the same lines.
Our plant produced pistons for GM;the normal Chevy pistons were dropped in a bin;the Buick pistons were hand wrapped and placed in the bins.
Back in the day(1970's) I saw a new GMC truck with a Chevrolet tailgate, right from the factory.Mistakes did happen but very unlikely today.

GMCs usually have a little fancier trim....other than that.....same

Agreed, and with SR and JHurt. I started on the assembly line at GM before apprenticing as a toolmaker. Trim and option differences are obvious. What 'seems' the same comes out of the same basket of parts. At Buick City we built Buick LeSabre, and Oldsmobile, mixed on the same line. The entire power-trains, exhaust, brakes, etc were identical except for anti-sway bars and alum wheels. Difference there was all in the sheet metal.

GMC was the 'WT' (bare work truck) in the '50s & '60s, and Chevy had higher trim packages into the '80s. By 2000 GM had switched marketing angles, and less-blingety Chevy has remained my truck of choice. '84, '99, '12 ... all K2500s V-8 gas, and I sell them after I put ~40k mi on 'em ('99 bot new, sold in '17 with 38k mi .. :), put 42k on the '84)

GMC used a 305 cubic inch V6 as its standard engine in pickups and suburbans from 1960-1974. It had a very unique sound and lots of low end torque. I had one in a 1968 GMC that was salmon colored. Ugliest thing going and we all referred to it as Pinky. It was four wheel drive and we fed with it a lot in some pretty deep snow. You could chain up all four tires and put it in low range - practically unstopable until you started pushing a bunch of snow with the front end. There were other variations of that engine to include 478 cu. in. There was even a variation called a "twin six" that looked like two V6 engines bolted together, but was actually cast in one piece.

The 2019’s will have different wheel well openings. GMC’s will have an angle on the front of the wheel well while the Chevy’s are just rounded. They both look much better than the previous rectangular wheel wells they both had. Just my opinion.

I have a GMC 2500HD SLT and I would most likely buy another GMC over a Chevy. Most of the major components are the same but as others noted trim, accents, ergo's etc are different. The body lines are slightly different also and I really like the body lines of the GMC better. The interior gauge and controls layout is slightly different also, and again, I prefer the GMC. Some things may be interchangeable but some things aren't. My impression was as the commercial's say, GMC is 'professional grade' and I think it is true. The GMC just seems to be a step above.

I also have a Pontiac Firebird and it's the same issue between Firebird and Camaro. Many things are the same but there are distinct differences that appeal to some and not others.

Well does the GMC use lock washers ?

I don't think I'd tell too many people that. Sounds silly.

It's supposed to be a Joke ! :confused2:
