What are the reasons for NOT using Cruise Control?

Well, for my area, that would be pretty much all of the vehicles built with base engines. Reliability comes from not dogging it up the hills expecting to maintain the speed limit. Safety comes from keeping these sorts of underpowered vehicles in the right lane and on the occasions they need to move left, not having idiots trying to pass on the right.

If I get passed on the right, I figure *I* should have already been back in that lane.

But then I don't get an ****** looking in my rear view & seeing a line of traffic.
And I don't figure EVERY other driver should adapt to MY way of driving.

Idiots will commonly try to pass on the right if there is barely a car-length to squeeze through, well before you've made enough clearance beyond the car you're passing to move over. I was taught to pass the guy you're passing far enough to provide him his two-second following distance before pulling in front of him, just as I expect folk to do for me. Sadly, courtesy isn't something that is common on today's roads. This thread has made something very clear though, there are two types of drivers on the roads today; Those that are in too big of rush to give a hoot about anyone else, and those that are more concerned about safety and economy.

I "don't figure every other driver should adapt to my way of driving". But I shouldn't have to beat myself or my vehicle up because someone wants to set their cruise 10MPH over the speed limit (or even at the limit in some cases)...

My only point in all of this has been that there are MANY reasons folk don't use cruise to maintain a steady speed and that cruise control gets overused in places it shouldn't be used at all.

Yes..... I've been stuck behind those "safety" minded people that pull out into the left lane 3 sec. behind the vehicle in front of them and proceed to "pass" them at .25MPH faster then it until they get to the rear bumper then match their speed for a half mile or more then finish until 3 sec. beyond before (still at or below .25MPH faster) even attempting to get out of the lane.

But you , the one deliberately trying to incite road rage, are the "safe" one.

Granted, someone going slower than you want or feel the need to go can be a little aggravating at times. Thing is, do you become aggressive every time something aggravates you? Road rage is for idiots. If you have nothing more to get upset about in life, you're doing very well and should take the time to count your blessings...

This is so true. These people who get in road rage incidents even shooting at others have absolutely no reason to be fighting over something so stupid. It reminds me of prison behavior if another driver feels "disrespected" he has to retaliate and then the whole thing just escalates. These dorks watch too many fast and furious movies.

Amen! Lack of blinkers, not completing a stop at a stop sign, and speeding are the worst offenses I generally see. What's worse, the drivers committing such offenses are generally the rude and raging drivers that have no concern for anyone but themselves.
