What are the reasons for NOT using Cruise Control?

Most drivers locally, are pretty good drivers. Up around the Morgantown area during rush hour there are lots of rude drivers treating all the other traffic like an obstacle course. Get away from Morgantown and you get away from a lot of that.

Cruse control use or non use is minor to the people who don't use blinkers.

I'd say texting while driving has potential to be bigger than anything we have seen as far as killing people with cars. Hopefully these modern cars for bad drivers will help with that as features like automatic stopping will certainly help.

Regarding not stopping completely.....and not using turn signals.....

Is it a problem if no one is around? I live in the sticks. Lots of stop signs where there is no one around and you can see for a long ways.

Same for signals. If no one is around to be effected???

Well, turn signals and stop signs are for other drivers on the road. So, no need to follow the rules. This will give you time to pop open that other beer....

The operative phrase is "if no one is around." That includes "no police officer" to see you. In my experience I'd say something over 99% of the drivers do that. And yes, I've done it myself.

The purpose of stopping and/or using turn signals is to prevent accidents (collisions). If there's no one around, than there can't be such an accident.

Now the problem is that if we get into the habit of doing such things, we'll probably forget sometimes and do it when there actually is someone around, and participating in an automobile collision is not something we want to happen.

Yes..... I've been stuck behind those "safety" minded people that pull out into the left lane 3 sec. behind the vehicle in front of them and proceed to "pass" them at .25MPH faster then it until they get to the rear bumper then match their speed for a half mile or more then finish until 3 sec. beyond before (still at or below .25MPH faster) even attempting to get out of the lane.

But you , the one deliberately trying to incite road rage, are the "safe" one.

Between Little Rock and Arkadelphia on I30, it's usually tractor trailers that do that. I've gotten boxed in by them and missed an exit before. The tractor trailers took 28 miles to pass each other

Popular around here is side by side at 50 mph and tick off everyone behind them. Pretty common, and usually the drivers are clueless to why everyone is cussing them when they get a chance to go around them. Occasionally, you'll get a decent police officer that will pull over both parties and ticket for impeding the flow of traffic.

Other than developing an automatic habit of using the turn signal? That is why I signal every turn. Of course the standard answer to the driver's test question. "What does it mean when the left turn signal is blinking?" Answer - "It means that light is working" :)

Exactly!

Practicing good habits even when they aren't necessary makes them automatic when you forget. ;)

I'm steering with my left, texting with my right, trying to stay in the slipstream. and now you want me to signal too?

If you don't signal a lane change when there are no other vehicles in sight, untold numbers of children will be killed.

Is that what you want?
