I finished putting the deck & back onto the Carry All frame today and would like to put sides on it. I spotted the brackets shown in the picture from this forum but can't find them on the net.

Probably because I don't know what they are called. I've searched "square tube interlocking bracket" without success. I realize I could just by the 2x4 steel brackets but would prefer those shown.

Any ideas on what they're called ?

Are you talking about stake pockets. Your pic isn't verry good. It doesn't get much bigger when you click on it

Nope . The 2x4 brackets I mentioned are stake pockets. Those shown in the picture appear to be square metal tube where they have a male section that inserts into the interior of the adjacent piece.

I made the picture a little bigger.

Does seem to be something going on there with those stakes, but very hard to imagine what it is.

Do you think the lower parts are fixed to the frame, and the upper ends slide into the lower part?

Can you link to the original thread?

Did a search on "telescoping tubing" and it might be what you are looking for. ??

i doubt you'd find those anywhere except the guy's garage that made them, if he made extras. looks custom fab to me. what thread did you find that picture in?

SARG- see if you can locate a place that specializes in trailer stuff; they often have all sorts of trailer hardware, including hardware for trailer sides. Around here we have a place called "Lucky's Trailers Sales."

They do have a website:
"Need Parts? We have them in stock and will deliver to all of Vermont, parts of New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. We have parts for all makes and models of trailers."

I picked up some interlocking corners for my little trailer's sides from them. Couln't find them anywhere else.

You might even find similar items at a TSC store....

You could try using cut pieces of top rail from cyclone fencing. The sections slide into one another as the fence goes along. You can buy the pipe at the big box stores. Just an idea if you wanted to fab something yourself.

Hey, I recognize those! You are correct, I custom-made them out of two sizes of steel tube nested together, I think it was one inch on the outside and 3/4 on the inside.

To connect the inner and outer tubes, I drilled a couple of holes in each outer tube and then puddle-welded the two together.

Problem was, they didn't fit as tight as I wanted, so I wound up welding some thin washers on the smaller tubes to take up some of the slack. Maybe you can find sizes that fit together better. Here is a pic of the "nesting" end of the tube.

I have a thing against bolts sticking out to snag stuff, so I recessed them within the tubes. To attach the stakes to the wood, I drilled a 1/4 inch hole all the way through both sides and then enlarged the outer one to 5/8 so I could get the nut on the carriage bolt.

Oh, and here's what the "stake pockets" looked like before they were mounted.

RUNNER >>> Thankyou much for the info. I've got the wood mounted onto the frame ....after paint. Looks like I'll use the traditional stake pockets and corner braces. I've got some 2 to 3 ft wide 5/4 rough cut boards that Dad had collected & perhaps I'll use some of that for the sides and back.

Thanks again.

SARG,

You are welcome!

If you search my posts, you'll find several other pictures of my carryall.

Best of luck with your build.

I can't seem to find pictures of my carryall box, but I can describe how I did this. My box is slightly wider than twice its depth (front to back), so I hung hinged sidewalls that fold in against the front (vertical wall) if I ever want an open L-shaped platform. The sidewalls slope down a bit toward the back, to help maintain backwards visibility. The sidewalls are also equipped on their back (vertical) inside edges with short sections of channel iron to take up to three drop-in tailgate boards (2x8s). In addition, one of the tailgate boards can be slipped into shelves on the sidewalls to form a seat, in case you ever want to take helpers out to the woods or berry patch. Finally, on the front of the vertical (wood) wall I have mounted a couple of plastic tubes for tool handles and a wooden chainsaw scabbard.

............

McMaster Carr has the interlocking corners, as well.

Thanks, beenthere! My daughter, who works for a fluid dynamics R&D company, is always telling me the same.... "McMaster-Carr!"

I'm thinking I should move them to the top of the list for all my "bits & pieces" searches! Most of he people I described those corner pieces to had no idea what I was talking about.

Yeah, SARG, those look just like the ones I got. I thought they were pricey, too, but also thick- they won't wear out anytime soon!

Seems like I paid over $5 apiece for them, back in May of 2008. The surface rust doesn't seem to bother them at all.

That rear "gate" on my trailer lifts right out yet fits very snugly- thanks to those brackets. (Other panels- sides & front- are bolted in at the base of the posts.)
