In south central PA, 10 acres will run you from $200,000 to $300,000 easy.

Land in Lousiana is still pretty affordable. I bought my "suburban" 10a for 2K per acre 5 years ago. I think you can still buy rural land for around that price. You might be able to find rural scrub land for $1500.

Here in Cochiose county 40 ac parcels can be had from $39000 up. Average price around $2500 an ac.

In 1999 I paid $255K for 157 acres ($1.6K/acre) in Mendocino Co. California. It is timber production zone (TPZ) so it has low taxes. I could probably get at least two times that now just for the land, three times that with the improvements I have made, and at least six times that if the whole plot was suitable for growing wine grapes.

I am trying to sell my 33 acres and home in Huntington West Virginia and hope to get around $200K. The land, if it didn't have a house, would be valued at between $1.5 and $2K/acre.

2450 / acre for 53.3 total acres in SW Michigan with no buildings. Stream with 2 tributaries in the back 20 which is wooded ridges & valleys. 6 acre pine plantation. 1/2 of a 5 acre swamp. Some aspen woods, a couple fields and six acres of highbush blueberries (mmmmmm).

2 hrs. form chicago. 10 minutes from lake Michigan beaches. Outstanding hunting but otherwise good for nothing - which is exactly what I plan to do there.

Can't remember who made the quote, but when asked about investing he said "Buy land, they're not making any more of it!"

We bought our land in south eastern OH in 1993 and paid $20000.00 for 44.9 acres. That price was for just land. About 40 acres was wooded and the rest an over grown field. We had a VERY light logging done in 2002 and got almost $11000.00 of the money back. Since then a drivway, electric and a nice 1200 sq ft cabin have been added and from what I gather, the place is worth well north of $125000.00 now. Like was mentioned, they don't make land anymore.

I paid $18k/acre 2 years ago for farm land. Raw land, no utilities, etc. We're getting pretty developed over here. Developers buying up farms left and right.

I've seen ranches for sale out west for $500 per acre.

It's all relative I guess.
