I considered getting a reverse rotation tiller however when I checked into how they work it seems they tend to bury rocks and leave the surface looking good. I want to pick out the rocks to improve the soil and avoid hittting them again and again. The forwaard drive models allow you to hold the back guard up and allow the rocks to blow out the back and stay on the surface. I have a Nardi (Italian built) It has served me well. It cost around $1800. It has a chain drive and has been through some pretty rough rocky use and except for a few dents the tines show no wear and it works well.
Whoever told you this, hasn't really tested both to their full capabilities.

A reverse tine tiller will pull the rock to the top of the ground, in front of the tiller(you as the operator need to pay attention and feel it), you stop.........remove the rock then resume tilling.

With a forward tine tiller (on the second pass) will dig deep enough to keep the tines from tossing out the rock, thus covering it with dirt............even if the gate is in the upmost position.

Been there, done that, and although I love my Bushog tiller..................I wish I had a reverse tine.

I have a job to finish this morning with alot of rocks, a few were about a foot long and tough on any tiller to deal with. I would rather the tiller climb over the rocks and roll them rearwards. For that reason I use a forward tine tiller. On big jobs I use a rock bucket afterwards to collect the big stuff and a pitch fork with 6 tines for small areas. Anything that I can't rake up easily stays put and gets pushed down into the loose soil.

If you have alot of rocks you might wan't to consider a Harley rake instead, I plan to get one if the economy turns around as this would help windrow the rocks better than most other methods.

I dont think i'll be dealing with any rocks where i'll be using the tiller. I've been gardening in this spot for a couple years now.

Does anyone here on TBN own a 6' Kodiak tiller?

I've had good luck with my KK 4' tiller. I paid less than 900 for it a few years back around this time of year.

Depending on soil, you can go wider than 6'. I have a 5' KK with 28 PTO hp and is no strain at all. In hindsight, I'd have got a 6' one.

Must be a little careful though. I went up from 4' to 5' and it really works the jd 2320. Its has 18 hp @ pto.

Got my tiller!

I bought it 2 days ago but just unloaded it off the trailer late this evening. It's a 6' Countyline (King Kutter). I bought it used off Craigslist. Had to drive about an hour to pick it up, but no big deal. Man said it was about a year and a half old and had maybe only 2 hours on it! After looking at it, this was definately true. Still had excellent paint and even had all the paint on the tines! I got a real good deal on it, compared to buying a new one. I used it this evening for about 15 minutes. Only thing i may need to do is tighten the slip clutch some. I LOVE THIS THING!

Also, the PTO driveline hooked right up to my 231 Massey Ferguson. No cutting or modifying was needed. I am also very happy that i bought the 6' model instead of a 5'. It handles the 6' just fine and it covers my tire tracks.

Thanks for all the replies and yall's help!

Just make sure the pto shaft doesn't bottom out through the full range of movement. Don't ask me why I'm so **** about that now.
Good luck and enjoy.
Do you want to share the price you paid with us? No worries if you don't want to, just curious as always.

Yes! I have to remove the drawbar or the tiller PTO shaft will "toch down" on it when it's run deep.
It bears witness marks - that's the only way I knew that it had happened.

Thanks! Yes, the pto shaft is just fine. All that checked out just perfect. Sure, i'll share the price. I gave $1500 for it. It saved me $500 (including tax) over buying a new one.

Only thing i found 'wrong' with it is the chain is broken for the tailgate. It's somehow missing a link. Im gonna go to the hardware store today and get a heavier chain for it and that'll be taken care of.

Your tractor doesn't have a swinging drawbar? Pto shafts will hit the drawbar on my Massey IF it's in the center of the tractor. I just keep the drawbar to to right side under the rear end and leave it there. All tractors are different though..

Thanks Don! I've been lookin for a while on craigslist and just couldnt ever find a used 6' tiller. I feel like i got really lucky on finding it. He wanted a lot more for it but i wasnt giving anymore than what i offered. Otherwise, i would have bought a new one.

Gonna be using the tiller a lot this coming Saturday. Wanna go ahead and get it ready to go. How many pumps of grease should i put in the fitting for the tube that the tines attach to? Is it a sealed bearing or no?
Also, What weight oil goes in both gear boxes?

Thanks
