I beg to differ.. or rather my 8yr old 5' economy KK ( from TSC ) mower does. it lives outside, and has had the heck use dout of it.. it's mowed many ant mounts, hidden lumber and plenty of 2" material.. gearbox is still tight and holds oil.. dec has no rust thru's or bends.. tailwheel still works near as good as new.

A general rule of thumb...if you can buy it at Tractor Supply Company or Northern Tool, its relatively junk. There are a few exceptions, but you ABSOLUTELY need to know what your looking at.

There are some things so basic and simple, even TSC or Northern cant mess it up, but a shredder is not one. The earlier post was correct about the differing duties, and whatnot. The other thing is the gear box.

If you buy a JD you get a 5 or 6 year warranty on the gear box. Its worth it. If you buy the TSC you get a 1 year, and thats about all it will last if you use the heck out of it, or you leave it outside.

I say buy a slightly better one, keep it inside, and dont worry bout it again for 20 years ecxcept to change the oil.

I have had good luck with the woods 6' Heritage model for the last two years. it's got some dents in the deck where rocks where smashed against the sides but works fine.

Too bad you are so far away. I'd make you a great deal on a 4' unit I used with the BX22 when I had it. It is a Fred Cain Agri-Cutter model that weighs in around 500 lbs if I remember correctly. It's pretty solid for a 4 ft unit. Never had any issues with it, just too small for the 5030.

Get the Johndeere mowers. My dads got am MX6 on a 3720 that mows and sits outside. The paint still looks new, no rust, it is a powerful mower. One time, I was mowing up next to the barn and I heard a loud noise. The mower cut an old 4'' log in half without any problems. Johndeere mowers may cost a little more but its worth getting especially with the waranty. Good luck!

I have a woods brush bull series and am happy with it so far, spent a little extra for it but I know it will last if taken care of.

I'm glad I didn't pickup the heritage series as it's more of a light duty brush hog. If I was going light duty I'd consider the kingkutter not a great unit but not tough on the pockets either.

You can try used but it's difficult to find a unit that hasn't been used hard but they are out there. Many times it's someone who upgraded their power or decided to hire out.

Stay away from off brand overseas models unless you know someone who's had one and been happy with it, good luck with your choices.
