This morning on further inspection. It looks like 5 of the 6 holes in the transmission housing are cracked out , and all 6 holes had helicoil thread replacements. It looks like one of the holes was welded up some what at one time. I'm not sure what I am going to do next on this. Any ideas?
Before you go further with fixing the damaged holes, strip the paint, oil and dirt off the housing. Especially around the back and axle mounting points. Check for any other stress cracks or distortion. Whatever broke the 3pt put a great deal of stress on the differential housing and axles. If you don't find any damage there then fixing the holes will be worth the money and effort. If you find more damage, it might be wise to replace the rear end as a whole.
