I would have to go with a minnow trap. we use something similar to catch minnows for smelt fishing.

I'd say minnow trap, too. Although the ones we use have the inverted funnel entrance at both ends and the unit is split in half to open.

It looks simular to traps my neighor used to trap Japanese beetles. The only difference is his also had a metal cap simular to a cap you would see on a vent pipe. The beetles would fly under the cap, go down through the hole and like a minnow trap, have a hard time finding the hole to get back out. The screen looks to fine for a minnow trap, it would catch to much silt and debris, the hole also looks to small for a minnow trap.

Sorry I didn't read the size in the first post. That would be an awfully small minnow trap./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif If it is a cricket cage, the stopper is missing.

It is about 18" x 10" if you compare it to the width of the hardwood floor boards which have to be about 3" wide. I believe it is a minnow trap.

According to SKENT who found it..
It's made of metal insect screen, about 10 inches high, and has a removable bottom. The very center of the bottom has a 3/8" hole.

If you notice the upper right hand side of the photo, it is on a table. Could be a butcher block table not necessarily made from 3" floor boards. We can go on guessing for ever but I'll bet that if we were to see it in person, most of us would know exactly what it is. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Yes it's on a butcher block table. Bottom is about 5: in diameter, overall about 10 inches in length.

I guess it will be left on the shelf as a cricket trap.

Anyway. . . . it looks interesting. . . . . . .

Thanks for all the replies
