Pursuant to California Penal Code section 25610, a United States citizen over 18 years of age who is not prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, may transport by motor vehicle any handgun provided it is unloaded and locked in the vehicle's trunk or in a locked container.
Gotcha, so a hard sided case would meet the spec., doesn’t necessarily have to be a “safe”, correct?

It has to be a lockable case, so I suppose a poly box would do. A keyed lock is all that is what was suggested to me. The glovebox and center console are not approved because it is too easy to defeat those locks. So unloaded and locked in a box separate from ammo is my understanding of the law. I'm unsure if a biometric lock is acceptable in a car.
But I'm not a legal advisor.

Well...this week I pulled out all the stops and really splurged!!!
Since we had to go right by Harbor Freight today I bought a $15 grinder!
The (20 yr.?) old one yesterday made a noise & quit (but no smoke
), so I bought this one. Back home is when I saw the screws had backed out and now it's ok too. I use it all the time so wire wheel on one, disk on other.
I'm thinking old one on sale with coupon was $10.
