What did you do on or to your LS Tractor today?

Its been a late night for me getting this mowing video made and uploaded, but here it is if you want to see what I am dealing with: YouTube

This is just one of the ongoing issues I have, but its the most important and major issue. Its the one thing it was suppose to do for me.

If you think that LS should fix it or help me, please click the like button (that's the thumb's up button if you are not YouTube savvy.)

If you don't like videos or clicking links to YouTube videos, I don't know what to tell you. This video is 30 minutes long and shows you the issue. I try to keep it upbeat and not just me pi$$ing and moaning.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

Found one at the hydro drain plug. I think. Noticed that area wet. Wiped it all down yesterday. 'Nother drip off the plug this morning. At the 50 hour, I went ahead and did a fluid change rather than mess with trying to save it during the filter change. Plug came out and went back in fine, but I used the same copper washer. Wondering now if I should have changed it. Plug is tight. Reefing on it with a 30mm socket wouldn't make it budge.

Fluid level is OK on the dipstick, so it isn't much of a drip.
I had an inadvertent fluid change at my 50 hour service. I was a little surprised the manual didn't say anything about changing the copper washers. I guess I'll wait and see how mine hold up. It would stink to have to drain and replace all of the fluid again because of a leaky washer.

I went after work and hooked up the Brush Hog Squealer SQ720 (since we are sharing detailed info) to my 2016 LS XR4140HC to prove to my dealer once again that I can't mow more than 10 acres without it overheating even thought all airways are nice and clean. I have discussed this many times with them, but they have a lot of staff turnover so who knows what they even know anymore. I am doing this because I reached out to LS about all the issues I have had, went in circles for a month trying to get someone to talk to me but instead I got a 2 sentence email telling me to just go back to my dealer. Those guys at LS Tractor USA... big jokers they are. :drink:

This time was different though, since my AC compressor has locked up and burned the belt off, that load on the engine is no longer there. The belt is melted off so there is noting to drag the engine down from an AC perspective. Since the amount of HP an AC compressor uses seems to be widely speculated for an average, lets just say a few hp. Those few HP are now diverted back to the engine to power the PTO and the hydro-static drive system to move the tractor.

Now, I did have to drive with the doors and windows open on the cab (my ac now), but I was only going about 3 MPH so the wind drag should have been minimal.

When the tractor was new the AC was, well, awesome. It was great. I even mowed my whole pasture at my 40 acre lot multiple times that year and it never overheated, with ice cold AC no less. We had a very hot summer the 1st year we got that tractor and it did great the whole summer until the 1st major issue happen in November of 2016 which was the hydraulic cooler splitting at the seam and flooding the tractor engine compartment with oil. Since then the AC was not good and has gotten worse each day until it just died this year. The compressor was never fixed under warranty even thought I had asked them to, but belts man; those were replaced often and always seemed to be the issue?!? The weird part about the belts is it never helped. So, whatever. I did get this from LS though in the 2 sentence response from them: "He further explained, that the AC Compressor has nothing to do with the previous repair and is out of warranty. It’s recommended that your tractor is taken in to a dealer for air conditioning diagnosis before anything else can be said." Oh wait, dang I was wrong. They sent me 3 sentences. I thought that part was 1. Its not even why I reached to them, but whatever. I guess they called the dealer instead of me and talked about the last issue I had. Anyway.

This action was to make sure what I have been having problems with for 3.5+ years was still there. After bringing it in and it coming back over and over again not fixed, I got tired of driving hours round trip to get it not repaired. I ended up just buying an old tractor to just dedicate to mow with. It made me *very sad (*replaced other choice words) at the time since its an open station tractor and the main reason I bought my LS was to have an AC cooled cab to mow in. Its also gear and not hydro, but whatever. Who cares at this point. The idea then was that I was going to then wax up the ole' LS and pawn it off on some other poor fool. I did not end up doing that. Instead of that evilness, my wife used it as her tractor to drive around and do stuff since it did have at least a little AC working. This info is so you understand why I mowed today, remember you all wanted details so I am sharing. And no videos remember!

So what did I learn?

I learned that mowing with a cab tractor with the windows closed and no AC in Texas is a greenhouse you melt in.
Mowing in a cab tractor with all the windows open is a small dust and grass tornado that stays in the cab with you. I would have rather mowed with my old open station tractor.
And I learned that the drag that the failing AC compressor was putting on the engine did not matter, I get in about 5 to 8 acres of mowing and its done.

So yeah, its still broken. That is what I did with my LS Tractor today.

Now, for those of you boys and girls (and other) that do like videos so they can see the action; I will have them posted on my YouTube channel in the next few days. I won't even put a link to my channel in this post (psst, its always in the signature below if you need it).
I seem to remember from an earlier post you mentioned about oil getting into the cooling system? Is that right or am I not remembering correctly?

If that is correct, how thoroughly was the system flushed (I don't even know how you would do that correctly)? I don't think simply replacing the fluids would be sufficient. A film of oil or other contaminants inside the cooling system could wreak havoc on the efficiency of the heat transfer and may be contributing to your problems with regards to lack of cooling efficiency, and tractor overheating.

No, there does not seem to be any oil in the cooling system. The coolant seems fine. There was a fuel system issue where they found corrosion in the fuel pump, so I asked them if there could be corrosion in the cooling system but they said no.

There is also no loss in coolant, like a leak or anything. I have watched that for a long time. No leaks I can find. I really don't know what it is.

Well, it's not leaking that bad, so I plan on waiting a while.

Right now, I'm more concerned with knowing it IS the washer and not something else.

Maybe you could get a new washer, quickly take the bolt out and plug the hole with your finger, use the other hand to switch the washer then quickly put in the bolt. It will be a little messy but should keep most of the oil and tell you if the washer is the issue.

If the oil plug has a crush washer on it, I always change it. Hope that helps.

Spent most of the weekend pushing over sweet gum trees, making more room for grass to grow in the pasture. Wanted to push more and push up the burn pile, but brewed seals out of the lift cylinders on the dozer. 17 years old. Used the LS to pick up the trees one or two at a time and take them to the burn pile. Had to go slow as trees were still full length. Had one small hill. I had one time that it tilted a little to one side, lucky trees were close to the ground. I will have to repack the cylinders on the dozer, JD 450h, cost about $450. Will change oil and do some other maintenance at the same time. But for now, I will cut some low branches from the trees that I want to mow under and haul them to the burn pile with the grapple. Hot here, cab would be nice, but life is good.

You can get a vacuum pump made for oil and hydro fluid not too expensive and just put it in the fill hole and empty and save fluids then switch copper washer then just put fluid back I believe even harbor freight has a fluid pump like this cheaper than wasting fluid!

Well I have not been on in a week or so but I see im.not only one having tractor down lol. Mine is not fixed yet but the parts are at dealer and will be in next few days! Well as for those having problems with LS USA I have had opposite situation I called corporate number for warranty work was told he would take note and to contact my dealer so I did. The dealer if course said they could come get tractor but would be a charge for mobile service this I understand since I have worked with heavy equipment and it's not free for them anymore than it is for the customer! My dealer is why I bought a LS I was looking at other lower cost tractors new buy! The dealer I used happens to be not a tractor dealer but a major heavy equipment dealer and shop so I know how they treat customers and equipment! When my tractor stopped working just dead stop after a little squeak beeping sound! I called it was of course 430 and their shop closes at 500 well the mechanic that deals with LS said go look at fuses and gave me his cell number told me to call after I checked fuse! When I say dead the tractor ran fine everything worked except to move the shuttle shift was out! So I find the fuse is toast and replaced it then it works for about 100yards and same goes out! So call him at his home about 6pm he says well get it in and we find out what's problem! So shorter story it was a proportion valve or something that shorted out and it shorted out shuttle shift computer! So hopefully tomorrow computer is installed and they will test it ! I have over 300hrs and this is first problem I have had! Side note the mechanic would have finished today but left work yesterday earlier with a problem in his knee went to emergency room found out it was a blood clot! So he texts me sorry he couldn't finish the work and will be there tomorrow to get it finished! Of course I want my tractor back but I told him take care of the leg first! Lol so its possible that the LS Corp is not too worried about the customer but it's also possible that you get a machine that is just not a great machine! I have seen lemons in every brand and there will always be mechanical issues! I suggest find best dealer you can and make friends with your mechanic if you want best outcome I have never used a shop or mechanic that did not show personal attention and friendliness! Because when all else fails that is the difference! Then when your equipment is broken and parts are out a week and the field needs to be mowed nailed and stored that week you can at least sit and complain about it drink a beer with the mechanic and not be as aggravated lol
