What did you do to your tractor today?

I would just weld that one back together, maybe put on a little reinforcement strap on each side and it will be better than new.

That was my first idea and then when I had a good look at the straps I started to wonder if the material is some kind of cast. If it is, then arc welding gets iffy, at least when I try it.

Put the water pump back in the 1450...and welded back on the sway link on the Massey. DSC01592.jpgDSC01607.jpgDSC01612.jpg

Bolted on rear wheel weights (120lbs each). Stole the wheel weights from the JD 2030. Added a brush guard to my front end guard. All done on the JD 6415

I did it like you suggested, Gary, thanks! Also, I made a slight modification so the cups are more snugly fitted around the ball. I don't know if the cam tightener provides a breakaway for the pitman attachment but it certainly did nothing for it in my experience. Eliminating it has helped give it closer tolerances and resulted in a much quieter operation. Yes, I finished those 2.5 acres about an hour ago.:cool2:

Well, I finally got to use my new Demco 3 PH sprayer today.
Actually I used it one other time, but I did more playing ans experimenting with it than anything that time.
It sure is a lot sweeter than the ole Fimco pull behind 12 volt pump.
That roller pump can spray 80 gallons in no time flat and puts out a very even controlled spray pattern.
So far, I think I am gonna love it
I got about 2 and a half acres sprayed for weeds tonight

Whenever I suspect that a piece might be cast steel, I use E7018 with about 200F preheat. I welded the lift arm brackets where they bolted onto the cast axle of my Yanmar after replacing 4 sets of broken and or lost bolts in one day. Then I tacked the bolts in the other bracket just to make sure they didnt loosen and fall out. All cast steel and never had another problem with those brackets. Cast iron is much different, but you hardly find any cast iron on tractors ,except maybe the exhaust manifold, contrary to popular believe that all the cast components are cast iron.

I braved the heat this morning for a few hours with my B 26 TLB and dug up a thicket of saw briars and some scrub saplings, used the hoe with hydraulic thumb to lift a couple of trees out of the creek and dug up a couple of sweetgums that had died from the drought. Later, about 7:30 pm I changed out the 7" bucket for the 12 and did a little digging around the upper end of the drying up pond. Man 105F days are tough on everything living. By 10 am it is approaching 100F everyday for the last month and still no end in sight on the drought or the high temps.

What I needed to weld was cast steel alright. My coffee buddy clued me in on how to determine if it is cast steel or cast iron. Just touch the piece in question to a grindstone and note the colour of the sparks. White sparks - steel; red sparks - cast iron . Once I was confident I was working with steel, the rest was quite easy.

Hay was finally dry today. Raked about half what I have cut and baled it. Yield was a bit light because of a thin stand on a lot of it. I expect a better yield as well as better quality hay on the half that is left. I'll wait a couple more days to make sure it is dry. I may load some of that on the trailer and put a "HAY 4 SALE" sign on it and see if any goat farmers come around.:licking: That rain we had on the weekend set the harvesters back quite a bit.:( They're going like scat today.:cool2:
