What do I need to make a new garden?

Just got my first tractor and Im wanting to have my first garden this spring. Place I want to put it right now is just pasture with thick bahia grass. So, Im starting the area from scratch. Only implement I have right now is a 4' rhino shredder. Definitly going to get a box blade. But, what do I use to get the ground ready to plant the seeds? Ive seen discs and busting plows and tiller and all kinds of stuff. Dont have the $$ to buy it all. So, what implement do I need to get my bare ground ready for gardening? Thanks.

Tillers are good tools to have...but have a frontend loader also helps alot

I normaly turn the ground with the 1 bottom moldboard plow, then take the disc to it a couple of times or till all the big clumps are broken up good, normaly this is good enough to plant, which I do by hand, for raised beds on certain plants, I just use the good old tine rake and armstrong labor! I make sure to keep my rows the right width so I can get thru with the tractor and the cultivator to keep weeds down and help with drainage. I started with a larger IH built cub cadet and now use a small Kubota diesel 4wd, but still using sleeve hitch implements on an adapter to the cat 1 hitch. In time I plan to get the larger cat 1 implements, espicaly a disc as the lightweight sleeve disc takes several passes to get what I want done. Watch for used implements in the weeds at dealers, sometimes you can get a really good deal! Best of luck, Mike and Michele T
