Yep, Bird, no contest! No wonder you know so much about so much... (and I thought I was a renaissance man!!):laughing: Glad to hear you were finally able to retire --for good? (Be honest, now!) WBB in NH

The only thing I don't get bird is the early retirement from the force. Isn't at 25 you get much better benefits or is that at 20?

Benefits would have continued to increase until we'd reach the maximum at 35 years. But it was calculated by the month. But yes, I took a reduced pension to retire at the age of 49 (actually 10 days before I turned 49). I knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do from a financial standpoint, but there were a number of reasons I was ready to go.

Service Engineer(jack-of-all, master-of-none), for a Japanese machine-tool company (covering all of New England), been doing it for 20yrs. Kinda hate a love/hate relationship with it, company was family-owned when I started, now has changed hands twice. Luckly for me "old machines break, have operator crashes, or other issues," so I have enough work to keep me busy, till I can retire.

Hehe, sounds like the old one that comes around (at least in the hallways of Big Blue) every so often. A guy knows a lot about a certain machine, but that's all he knows and the machine hasn't broken down in a couple years so the guy is let go. Then the machine breaks. They try all kinds of fixes. Nada. Somebody finally calls in the old guy and he looks at the machine a few seconds, bends over, straightens up and the machine is running again. He gives the company a bill for $100,000. The manager looks at the bill and refuses to pay it for these few seconds of effort unless it is itemized. So the guy takes the bill back and writes down:
Paper clip- $.21.
Knowing where to put it- $99,999.79.

Geophysical Technologist going on 25 years. Have worked all over North America, Africa, Australia, parts of Europe, and the Middle East. Spend about 2 to 3 months away from home every year which has been tough on the family life. Self taught, no certs or degrees. Not the easiest path to take, lol.

Nuclear power plant inspector using ultrasound, dye penetrant, magnetic particle and visual tools. We check the welds on the reactor and piping systems after so many cycles of the unit, ensuring there has not been any degradation. Verifying the piping supports are functional so on. I travel nationwide and have done so since 1987. I am a sub contractor. Its interesting using some cutting edge technology, particularly on the remote inspections...either due to accessibility issues, or radiation levels. Have been to 37 various sites nationwide. It nice to visit different parts of the country, and one can see the various moral standards from region to region. I have met some wonderful people over the years.

Well, start spilling it. We want lots of answers.

Okay, maybe that is just something I pretended as a kid.

I am a financial consultant focusing on risk management. Not nearly as exciting as an Agent at a Super Secret Government Agency.

Which company do you sub contract for? I am also in the nuclear industry, doing refueling.

There are at least two more of us that were in the Nuclear industry! We were test depth dummies on submarines :)
