What do you like least about your tractor?

Well I've got a 4310hst as well, only have about sixty hours on it so far. Of coures there is a few add ons that need to be done but, here are a few of the things that I dont like. Hummm or am I only allowed one? Oh well here goes

1. Sidelink adjustment setup--With a hydraulic toplink and while raising or lowering the sidelink there is VERY LITTLE clearance between the handle of the sidelink and the hydraulic toplink. If your not careful, squished fingers.

-----Fix-----hydraulic sidelink!!!!

2. Lift capacity of the loader. --loader needs more spunk.

3. Front heavy duty grille guard is a joke.---needs expanded metal put on to keep limbs from doing damage. I should say it works great if you would run into the side of a dumptruck and that is what it's designed for.

I still at times reach for a lever that just isn't there anymore./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Couple things on the L4610...1.The toolbox that is not much more than a pencil holder and I have not needed a pencil while tractoring. 2.The way the ROPS is designed and built so it can't be removed easily.(I'm dodgin' apple showers when I mow). 3.A mid PTO should be standard equipment on the larger L series Kubotas. 4.The cupholder from another post/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.Other than that, she's an awesome tractor/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

1. Really really really miss not being able to put a Kubota back hoe on it.
2. Really mis not being able to find a decent after market backhoe for it.
3. Amen to MUTT regarding missing cup holder and the cute little nearly useless pencilbox/toolbox.
(Let us know what you do regarding an external toolbox.) I actually hadn't thought about pencils yet, I hadn't come up with any use for it except a place to put the PTO dustcover and maybe a spare hair pin or hitch pin.
4. I really don't like the hobbyhorsing (bobbing up and down front to back kinda motion) which is induced by suspension geometry, short wheel base and adding front wheel drive. When in 4wd and with the steering full or near full to one side or other, any throttle above idle induces bothersome oscillations.
5. Sometimes requires extraordinary procedures to shift gear ranges (HST). It isn't enough to set throttel to minimum, come to a full stop, depress the clutch, and shift ranges. You have to sometimes let the clutch out and rock the HST pedal fore and aft while gently keeping force on the shift lever to get it in gear (usually works). Sometmes more manipulations are required.
6. Shifting into and out of 4wd is as in (5) above but happens more often and the extra measures work less often and with more difficulty. Lately I've taken to pulling ahead or back very very slowly while trying to put it into or out of 4wd. Works more often.
7. Although really quiet at idle and just above, at PTO speed or anywhere close the cab is a very noisy environment requiring hearing protection that makes a radio (comes with provision for radio and stereo spkrs) a mute issue, or should that be a deaf issue?
8. When the heat index got over 110 the A/C was barely able to cope or not depending on how vigorous I was in the cab duties, working the controlls. It may have been OK for brush hogging in open territory but doing FEL work exercises the operator a lot more. Still, compared to the outside environment it was a huge amount better.

Still I really like this tractor, my first. (75 hrs)

I use a really stiff spring to keep enough tension that it doesn't rattle except at PTO speeds...and above 2200RPM I use hearing protection anyway.

I also don't like the flimsy plastic, the R4 tires I hate, the seat on the backhoe is really uncomfortable, should come with a rear light, and the fact that my dang gas gauge is broke and I didn't know it and it left me way out in the field when the tank said a quarter and she was bone dry!!

Ditto on the missing cup holder and microsized tool box. My list adds the lack of FEL bucket level indicator and also I'm not fond of the exhaust being lower and in front of my big nose. The heat and smell of diesel exhaust on 90+ degree bush hog days can get to you if you can't have a cold beverage in your (missing) cup holder!

IndianaPaul,

The lack of engine compartment panels is one of the reasons I went with a JD4700. That was semi big deal for me since I'm pushing brush all the time. The TC45 sorely tempted me in my purchase decision....

On the 4700 the only thing that comes to mind that I bugs me is the engine noise especially at PTO speed. The RPMs for PTO operation are almost at the "red line" on the engine. I really wanted to move up to a 5000 series since their PTO RPM were much lower on the tach but there was no support for the JD48 at the time on the tractors.

CowBoyDoc,

I like the plastic fenders! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif But I forgot about that backhoe seat. I can't stand that they made it black instead of yellow. That black seat can heat up quickly in the sun! I compenstate by putting a towel on the seat to keep off the sun. That towel may make it a bit more comfortable as well.

Funny you should say something about the gas gauge. I had a problem with mine last year when it said I had a good quarter of a tank. I had just backed the tractor up to a monster pine stump put down the FEL when the engine sputtered and died. The truck was 3,000 feet away round trip and I made the trip a couple times before I got the engine started...... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

BUT, the gage has been working ever since. I don't really get it except maybe it was hung up. I still don't trust that gage. When I'm getting low I start looking into the tank and sticking in a stick if I don't have any fuel to it top off. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Now that I think about it the JD manual while very good also leave out some important information. I never found in the manual how to start after running out of fuel. Pretty simple, just hold the key over until the engine catches and goes but it took a bit of time. The MX6 manual does not have a word I can find about how to maintain the slip clutch. Lots of legal beagel warnings though.... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif The manuals are very good they just leave out some information.

Mark,

Good topic! But do you really think that a True Blue Card Carrying member of "Club Blue" can find something wrong!

Well, I searched long and hard and the only thing that I can find that I don't like about the Mighty TC18 is that I can't find anything wrong with it! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Actually, if I had it to do over again, the purchase that is, I would have waited and ordered the TC18 with power steering for an additional $600 at the time! I bought mine off the lot without power steering. It's fine for mowing and rotary cutting, but when I move dirt with the blade or rear scoop, I could really use the power steering.

What I like least about my tractor is that it's still sitting on the dealer's lot 'cause I can't afford it right now./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Hope to change that in the spring, though! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Sounds like Jonleonard and I have the same problem.

ast about your tractor?

The plastic might scratch but it won't rust after it scratches like metal will,it will stand some impact before it breaks where as you bend the metal then you have an ugly old dent you have to look at,the plastic they make today is stronger than a lot of metals, not to mention being lighter as well.

I don't have much like for the engine cover panels. I suppose it is easier to replace if one gets torn up, but a minor pain to take off. The front cowl is a bit of a chinese puzzle also.
I'd like to see the filters relocated
The paint on the tractor is cheap. The loader paint is bulletproof, what gives with that?
Most complaints I have are petty, the performance is heartwarming to say the least.

This is an easy one... The 3pt hitch system is the most un user friendly device I've ever seen. This should really be something that one person can hook-up a implement in 3 minutes or less with only getting off the tractor one time(or less)!

Besides that one, the comments on the B2400 levers already cost me 3 pairs of shorts pockets that riped when dismounting it.

I don't like the stiff hydraulic lift control on my New Holland TC45D. It's impossible to feather the lift without overcompensating./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif Almost any '40s tractor is better than that. It's engineering for appearance rather than function that has NH in trouble there, I think.

My B6200 HST came with a custom made FEL and the bucket doesn't roll back far enough. Also the controls are on the left hand side and has two levers instead of a joystick. With a little time and $$ these can probably be re-engineered.

Have a TC40D and what I like least is the seat. Love the arms, swivel, adjustment for operator weight, just don't like that black color as it gets too hot. After a couple hours of seat time the back of my pants are soaked. Wouldn't be so bad if I could occassionally stand up while "tractoring" but I can't as the seat has that safety switch. Seriously considering disabling the safety so that I can stretch occasionally and let my pants dry...

It has more plastic on it then I like. Sunlight, UY rays I guess, are really hard on plastic. The steering wheel on some older tractors will attest to that.

I have a JD 670. One of the characteristics I like is that it incorporates components used on larger tractors of the 70 series and is very heavy duty. However, the parking brake is a joke. The ratchet consists of a thin little piece of metal with tiny teeth. I have only a little more than 200 hours on the tractor, but the teeth are gone--worn right off. You also have to take apart several things to replace this part. I'm going to start carrying an anchor. One more thing: many of the pictures in the owner's manual don't match my tractor. I read up on how to do something and then can't find the parts on the tractor. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!
