What do you pay for diesel?

Until the early to mid 1990's Diesel was cheaper than the low octane gasoline. I have bills for off-road diesel (pre-red diesel) where I was buying 250-300 gallons for just over $1.00 / gallon. When EPA started requiring the ultra low sulphur diesel, the price started rising dramatically. My understanding is that a big part of the increase was significant export of the LSD to counties that required LSD but did not have the refining capability to produce it.

For whatever it's worth, I was paying less than $1/gallon for propane then as well.

My local station has been stuck on $4.00/gal for the last three or four months. I see a few that have it for way down around $3.99. Upper Lower Michigan.... Vanderbilt, North of Gaylord, Michigan.

I filled up my truck last week for 3.68 per gallon. Of road is about 10-15 cents cheaper per gal.

$3.96 - $3.99 for on road diesel here in Hurricane WV depending on which station you stop at.

Paid $3.31 a gallon in La Salle, IL on Wednesday. That really isn't fair to anyone in this discussion though. I got 47 cents off the cash pump price because of negotiated contract with the Flying J truck stop there.

I have ended up in GA and TN this week plus of course AL. Just glancing at the station signs the on road seems to be from $3.69 to $3.8x depending on which station and location. I have not bought any off road diesel since Alabama began charging state sales tax on it, have not kept up with the off road prices. I think the switch from LSD to ULSD happened about the same time as the state sales tax.

Alabama began charging state sales tax on it, have not kept up with the off road prices. I think the switch from LSD to ULSD happened about the same time as the state sales tax.

It's still a little cheaper (10-15 cents) than road diesel as , there is no road tax on it.. I know of some that take the chance and run off road (no road tax) diesel in their diesel trucks to save that 10-15 cents per gal. I'm not gonna take that chance
