John you are confused; Yanmars are not nearly as smooth as Kubotas. Probably has something to do with the old 2 cylinder "Johnny Poppers" that used to run the fields. I think the green company might have gotten a trademark on the noise of the old poppers and carried it over to Yanmar, similar to the way Harley-Davidson trademarked it rumble.

Doesn't sound like Kiohio's traded in Kubota is so smooth. I remember those old 2cyl Kubotas from years ago and they weren't much quieter, if any, than any 2cly Yanmar I ever heard.
I remember thinking the engine must be coming apart when I heard that first Kubota back in the 70's. John

Well I can assure you that nothing out there compares to the 2 cyl Deere engines of the 40s and 50s!!!

Actually....the Yanmar, We had a YM240D, was a bit quieter.

No 2 ways about it.
But yes pretty close. Make a nice "resto" project.
