Gladehound, How much does that rock weight? Probably less than my mother in law, including her broom !

Wow... I hope she doesn't read this forum! you don't want to anger a 1,500 pound mother inlaw.

P.S. - That broom must have after burners on it for lift off!

I use 180 lbs/cf for rock weight. This obviously depends upon the type of rock, but if you know the volume, you can do the math.

Let us know.... want to see if it exceeds my ex-mother in law.... [not likely]

one thing I noticed is that I would have left that rock much closer to the ground so that if it did come up in air (front end) the rocks would touch down and relieve the weight unbalance.

but I would have guessed in the round of 900~100 too. BUT it is hard to tell full SIZE from the angle in the pic, not a lot of size ref to go by with out knowing what size the kub is for sure.

I measued the rock. It is just over 4 feet long and just over 2 feet wide with various thickness but probably averages a foot thick. So about 8 to 9 cubic feet of rock. In all fairness to you guys, the right side of the picture is cut off and the rock extends that way quite a bit. For perspective, I'm the guy in the picture and I'm 6 foot 2, 220 pounds.

So the calculation is...

8 cubic feet x 168 = 1344 pounds low estimate
9 cubic feet x 180 = 1620 pounds high estimate

So in that neighborhood.

This is consistent with the fact that my Kioti LB1914 (not Kubota) has a rear lift of just over 1300 pounds 24 inches behind the links and was not able to lift the rock until I went back and helped by lifting about 200 pounds of it myself.

My guess is, this is probably still less than some mother-in-laws ;)

Hey gladehound, are you by any chance practicing for that Capt. Morgan competition? :D

Egon - I'd love to drag them. Definitely can drag a lot more than I can carry... but there are turf damage considerations.

Any more guesses on the weight?

I have a good idea what it is by two methods and the results agree.

1) I took some rough measurements to get the volume of the rock. I know the approximate density.

2) I know the lift capacity of the 3 pt. and I know how much extra it took to get the rock off the ground.

Hint: 3 pt is rated at 1300 pounds 24 inches behind the links and it couldn't lift it by itself.

I move a rock with my PT422 which weighted 819 pounds (listed on the receipt). Your rock looks about twice as big, so I guess 2000 pounds.

Yea, and I'm going to kick butt! Some guys train with a girl on their leg. Wimps! I like to use a front end loader for my resistance training.

Consistent with my upper end weight estimation based on measurements.

I'm not sure whether it was from age of my tractor or from weight, but I started having leaks in my 3 pt seals after carrying some heavy stuff on my 3 pt. Fortunately, they were easy to fix.

Aside from the safety issues, you might be getting ready to pop a seal or two if you keep this up.

The turf will grow back.
