What do you tow with?

My Ecoboost has 43,000 miles and has been 100% trouble free. Towed 10,500# 3600 miles since August 1st. I am still amazed by the power and economy.

Most of these miles were with a loaded bed and my family of 4 along. That's what 1850# of payload does for you.

07 Tundra 4x4, 5.7L gas, 6 speed auto towing 8,000lb 30' boat/trailer. About 8mpg towing, 16mpg everyday driving.

At 8mpg probably not the best choice for long distance trips:)

Nice boat

I made a recommendation earlier. Here is the post.

Here is an article with a loaded up ecodiesel with a payload capacity of 490 lbs. You would need two of these trucks to get 4 average guys to the golf course. Lol
Our Inaugural Annual Physical: This Time, V-6s - PickupTrucks.com Special Reports

I could recommend to the OP an ecodiesel but only if it is a stripped down version. My guess is that if he can afford an 8000 lb camper and a trip to Alaska, I doubt he would want a work truck version. Love the Ram 1500's for light work though. Bump up the payloads to match the competition and it would be a winner winner.

You posted a link to a poor fellows unfortunate experience with his ecoboost. I've got 38,000 hard miles on mine without a hiccup. It has been a huge success and for 2015 ford is rolling out a smaller version. I am anxious to see the published payloads for the new aluminum bodied f150.

I'll pick my wife's 2007 expedition this morning from the body shop. I brought it in because among other little things was the rear hatch had rust bubbling in a few different spots, I thought it was rust. Nope came to find out its aluminum, it was corrosion/ oxidation but not rust. I'm not a chemist. The owner of the shop doesn't like the idea of an all aluminum truck for our climate.
I usually keep my trucks pretty clean but we do live down a gravel road.

Only way to avoid corrosion is to build a stainless steel vehicle. Not sure if a DeLorean truck would be successful. Time will tell if aluminum will outlast the steel. I've had a couple vehicles made of steel show rust after fewer years than seven. Corrosion sucks.

We are looking for a new truck to tow our 30 foot travel trailer. The loaded weight of the trailer is near 8000 pounds. Wondering what kind of truck you have and what mileage you get while towing and empty on the highway, What gears do you have? WE live in Louisiana where it is flat, but we are retired so the truck and trailer will see a lot of mountains and will be go to Alaska next summer,

Today the wife and I bought our new truck. We looked at all brand with a open mind and compared all the different options. Our first stop was the Chevy dealer and my wife found her the perfect truck LTZ 4WD Duramax very loaded and the dealer was ready to deal. So after a while we went to the Ram dealer if for no other reason just to check our Chevy deal. We found a Ram Big Horn which would have been a great choice. Anyway the Ram dealer just couldn't match the Chevys deal. There was $4500 different on equal trucks. We check the Ford dealer but didn't like any thing in stock and I didn't want to wait on a transfer. On the way home driving 60 MPH we got 24.1 MPG.

BTW the Ram dealer didn't recommend the ECO Diesel if we are going to be towing a our trailer lot

Thanks for all the opinions and information.

Made a good trip to try out the Duramax. We pulled our car hauler to Anniston Alabama which was almost 400 miles. We got 16.7 MPG empty driving 70 to 75 MPH, on the way back loaded we drove mostly 70 MPH with and extra 2000 pounds and a little wind we got 15.5 MPG. I am very pleased.
