What Do You Use For Anti Skid and How Do You Spread & Store it?

I get bagged by the pallet either 2000# or 2200# per pallet.
This is my last year even though I enjoy the coal heat. Getting the second knee replaced this spring so no more kneeling down to shake or knife the grates for me.

Not much difference in price per ton up here unless getting a 20 ton load at a time, bagged or bulk pretty close to the same price
Good luck with the knee I hope for a fast recovery. Coal heat is what you make of it. Clean or dirty and work harder or smarter. That’s always been the plan in the younger years then the body yells “HANG ON A GOSH DANG MOMENT BROTHER”

We have a SnowEX spreader (older version than in the link) & it works great. Ours is setup for both a 2" hitch receiver & 3-point connection; I've used it both ways. The controller is nice as it allows for independent control of flow (amount of material dropping) & the spinner / spreader speed (how far it broadcasts). The vibratory shaker breaks up & moves the material smoothly. The hard cover keeps everything dry... The only thing for use was loading it but we know have a few different way depending if we are using it on the truck or the tractor.

Overall been very happy with the SnowEX unit.

I have a pair of boots with hex head sheet metal screws driven into sole from the outside. Sure traction. On my dirt bike I use ice racing screws in the knobs.

I save my wood ash and will get a tractor bucket of sand from a bar in the creek.

Have most of my ash from this winter. Spread ash and chicken litter on the pasture in the shape of a #47 to celebrate the rebirth of the country.

We have had winters here with 2-3" of ice for a month. Snow then thaw then snow or ice then thaw keeps building up. If it is too bad I stay home and walk around in my ice boots. No one else who lives on a secondary road is moving either. Better stock up on essentials.

This winter has been average. No ice more than a day or 3.
Sounds like homemade Calk Boots.

I will probably be there too. I’m 48 raising two great kids. But just this weekend making a dozen trips down the basement stairs with two drywall buckets full of coal I always wonder how long I will be able to keep this up.
Sounds like a good job for the kids, then your knees will last longer.

I also have a SnowEx spreader this is mine. I wish mine would have the vibrator. It would definitly help with the feed issue i have.

The Vicon pendulum spreaders are thee point hitch mounted and designed it be loaded
at ground level.

The agitator cam arm is operated with the gear box under the conical hopper and the
open base is fully exposed to the material that is to be spread.

The fiber glass or injection molded hopper allow for easy cleaning and free flow of material.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a self loading broadcast spreader that will work on the FEL or 3pt hitch. Spreads sand, salt & 1/4" gravel.

The 3pt mount has a hydraulic frame which allows the hopper to pivot, and lets you to back into a pile of material to load.

The hopper can be mounted on the FEL as well with a SSQA plate and powered via the 3rd function valve. Either way, loading & spreading can be done without leaving the tractor cab.

I wanted a 3pt spreader since I usually have the plow on the FEL. The loaded spreader also adds 1500 - 2000#of rear ballast.

Got my best price online and my local dealer matched it. The distributor had one in stock which I bought. Otherwise, it would have to be shipped from Canada with a $2200 price increase due to the new tariff !!

Lucked out on that one.

Good looking spreader should be real handy.

HLA makes quality implements, I'm sure you'll really appreciate that spreader.

My driveway is flat. I only use wood ash in the spring to help melt the hard packed snow from the winter. Seeing as I heat with wood, I have a never ending supply of ash.
