What do you use to lubricate the 3 point hitch assembly?

I just give the joints and balls a squirt of 30 WT used oil from the last oil change. But I am cheap. I figure, that it has been filtered by the oil filter on the rigs, Still usable for other uses.

I gave up on used motor oil 30 years ago. If filtering was enough we wouldn't be changing it out. Oil doesn't wear out, it becomes acidic (hydrogen accumulation), & that's what eats soft crank & rod bearing metal. It does work ok as a lube now & then but not so well to minimize rust, esp outdoors in the weather.

Not knockin' the option, ok? If you lube often, no prob at all. If you do so only at oil changes you may conclude what I did. That said, none of these methods seem permanent, so many of us are just doing our own version of lazy. btw, nobody mentioned bees wax yet but it's on my list of things to try. ... :confused3:

I'm cheap too, not a farmer or anything either, just a home owner with a tractor. I had about 2 gallons of lightly used synthetic oil I drained from a 4 wheeler a while back because I had turned it over and got gas in the oil. Put it in a small oil can and used it for years, now I use hydro oil in an oil can. I'm going to look into the Fluid Film though, I have never used it. Good thread.

I use Slip Plate #3. SLIP Plate® No. 3
It's a spray/brush on graphite film. I use it on any moving part that experiences high load like the FEL pins, 3 point hitch pins/balls and even brushed it on the bottom of my MMM deck to prevent rust and prevent grass from sticking to it. I also used it between each leaf spring on the spring packs of my 1971 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. Really helped the flexibility of the springs off road.

It's a great product. You can also load it in a spray gun according to the maker for covering large areas.

I use Fluid Film, but on areas like the 3PH I wipe it nearly dry after applying. That leaves a light film that doesn't attract as much dirt. I do keep a healthy supply of WD40 on hand, but usually use that as a cleaner only. It works great to clean the 3PH and the PTO on occasion, and then I apply the light film of FF for the best protection/lube.

I use the same old icky black high pressure moly grease that meets the recommended for my tractor. It stays where I put it and has been great on all my tractors for over 30 years. You need to be careful with it - its black, highly visible and seems to "travel" everywhere.

^^^

I use this on almost every joint that needs greasing on my tractor.

Just pick up a can of wet graphite spray today. Went to adjust the seat and it would not move. Gave it a spray with the new can
and it's back to sliding again!! Going give this a try on the 3 point.
