What does "quality" mean?

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

We work in the same field Roy. Quality is giving the customer what they want. In some cases it's price and others it might be durability. All depends what your taste is.

Kyle,
I agree. Like the motto for one company (who's name I can't remember /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif), says "quality is built in, not added on".

Farmtrac is Long, they have made tractors for a just a few years, well, just a few decades.

We sold the Farmtrac, Landtrac and Longtrac for several years and had about average satisfaction from the consumer. We dropped the line when the pricing was no longer competitive with the "Majors". Our definination of competitive is a Long tractor needing to be priced under the Deere, Kubota and Ford/NH by at least $3K (all accesssories and features being equal)--Ken Sweet

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

On the CUTS, not really. Small diesel, 4wd, fel ect ect.

The AG stuff is 85% a Ford tractor from the 60's. Nothing wrong with it, just old tech.

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

I am guessing that Farm Trak is Chinese, not the escort tractors from India. At 10K you bet there are quality issues. Just look around in the Chinese forum and you will see lots of wrench turning and overhauling very new machines. Now, that is the quality that the owners expect at the price paid And dealers are a big factor. Chinese machines have no dealer qualifications. Branson has low expectations and the big three are very restrictive in who can represent them. All have some good dealers all have some bad. But as you go down the tiers, you will find more low quality dealers, so the deliverd machine is likely not going to be as 'clean'

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

Seems to me we might have some confusion between 2 different brands.

Farmtrac

- and -

Farm Trak

At 10K, I would also bet the Farm Trak is Chinese, and not affiliated with Farmtrac. Several of the Farmtrac models (but not all) are made in Korea and parallel the Montana tractors (virutally the same machines, different paint).

As for "WHAT DOES QUALITY MEAN?" in my opinion it is going to be:

Something that is well designed, well engineered, well put together of superior materials that delivers superior performance & reliability for what it is designed to do.

I tend to think that customer satisfaction has NOTHING to do with quality. I could buy the best made "finish" hammer on the planet and use it for "framing" a house and it will perform badly and I will not be satisfied, however, for its intended purpose, it may provide superior performance and reliability. Consequently I will respectfully disagree with folks who suggest that meeting or exceeding customer expectations has anything to do with the quality of the goods purchased.

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

The Farmtrac utility tractors are made by escorts, the company that Ford set up to produce tractors. They are made in India, the last Ford tractor to roll off that assyembly plant was a Ford 3910 made in the mid 1990's, not 1960's. For $10,000 you can buy a FT535, 2wd, no power steering, its just a tractor. Its something that can pull a 5ft mower and a box blade and thats about it. To say it has poor quality is a false comment...in fact I would say it is the highest quality $10g tractor you can buy! Its not like its a brand new design...trust me when I say they have the bugs worked out of this thing!

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

One more outlook on quality.

There are 2 kinds of oats.

1)Oats in front of the horse.
2)Oats in back of the horse.

Re: What does \"quality\" mean?

Quality is best defined as "fitness for use" it should start, run, perform basic tractor functions and not break down within a reasonable period of time, everything else is best defined as "luxury". So any well designed tractor will work for the basic tasks but the tractors with luxury make the job a lot easier and will usually hold value better.
