What does this spring go to?

I was putting my mower deck on my B2320 hydrostatic tractor and found this spring hanging down.I looked on Messicks website and even went to the dealer and they couldn't find a picture of the spring.Any clue to where it hooks too?

Looks like the bottom is broke. It probably fell from somewhere higher and just happened to get caught there.

I'd look at the mower deck about where that spring is spatially located and see what it might hook to? I agree with ENC that it looks broke. Keep in mind this advice coming from someone that doesn't own a mowing deck. Someone knowledgeable will surely comment.

In looking at the picture, look to the right of the spring and up. It looks to me like a piece of metal/bracket got sheared off or busted. The piece of metal that I'm looking at is painted gray. I'm thinking that is where the spring got connected to.

Johnson rod or Cannuter valve is my guess, but I'm no tractor mechanic

What is the purpose of the bracket that the spring is attached to. Does it move left to right in the photo. If so, it would make sense that the spring could have been attached to a bracket just to the right where it appears that something broke off that was just barely welded.

Looking at the bottom of the bracket that the spring is on: It looks to me like that spring may go up. That bracket has scratch marks that look as thought the spring was attached to something above that bracket.:2cents:
What has quit working on your tractor?

Remove the spring and examine the bracket. You will most likely find the wear on the bracket in the direction of the pull. My guess by the design of the bracket it went to the rear or to the tractors right. I would put money on rearward.
