Start with a visual inspection of the cylinder walls in the suspect cylinders ... evidence of a small crack or cracks may actually be visible.
(Ask me how I know ...)
Did not see anything in the cylinders. I do have some dye penetrate, might try that.
Sprays that will help with that.
Compression check?
Any chance of warpage on head?
Never did a comp check. Darn near impossible to do on this motor. The intake manifold needs completely removed just to get to the plugs. And after seeing it run rough, and be burning coolant, I was sure this was a head gasket problem. So didnt bother with the comp test.
Still could be a gasket? I am not familiar with this style gasket. Heck, it could actually have been leaking between the two halves of the gasket?
