A little late now, but I love MagLeds. I got a 3D and 3 of the AAs. Tough as nails. The 3d could double as a self defense weapon

I also have a Pelican Stealthlight for work with a hard hat mount too. Its a very bright and tough light. Id like to get the LED version of it for home here, but I got a lot of lights as it is.

I got an LED conversion bulb for my 2 D cell Maglight from the local Ace Hardware store. I think it was the same brand mentioned 7 or 8 posts ago. Satisfied so far and much brighter than the Maglight 30 year old bulb. I think I bought this Maglight 35 years ago. If not it is 25 years old replaced after my truck was stolen. In any event the Maglights have worked well for our family. You can get the D cell lights repaired easily with a repair kit from Maglight. I did toss 3 AA Maglights in the recycle pile. I guess batteries leaked and I could not get them open. I assumed that penetrating oil would not get passed the o-ring seal.

MAG will warranty any light if it has "name brand" batts in it. All you have to do is send it in. I sent in a 3D and a AA that had blown batteries in them and Mag sent me 2 new ones. Great warranty service. Only downside was shipping from here in NS to California cost almost as much as the 3D could be bought for when on sale.

The good news about flashlights is that we have such a choice of good ones to choose from. "Back in the day" when I was a kid, there were not many to choose from and they all sucked. Our modern lights are much sturdier, brighter, and longer lasting. Even the cheap "junkier" lights are better than the best we had when I was a kid. It all started with the Maglight revolution and just got better with the Introiuction of LED technology.

I bought a Fenix TK11 with a CREE LED a few years ago and have been very pleased with. Lots of light output, two modes. I can typically see from my front porch down into my field on the highest mode, which is probably 2/10ths or so of a mile away. I run 1 18650 rechargeable battery in it and it lasts a while. I don't use it every day so that's one reason for the long charge. Typical use is about 11hrs on the lowest mode, and I think 3 on the highest. I won't go back to a regular light after having used this.

Those CREE XM-L flashlights on eBay are hard to beat for the price. I have a dozen of them. Just don't buy those cheap 18650 batteries or chargers on eBay. They are just bad cells out of laptop computer battery packs shrink wrapped in a new wrapper.

That is pretty funny, until I realized it is probably the one I use the most too, because the phone is always just right there.

Late to the thread and I did not read all the replies and not sure if you are still looking but a while back Costco had this set:

FEIT Electric 500 Lumens High Performance LED Flashlights, 2-Pack - Tactical Flashlights - Amazon.com

which I bought. Later I also saw they had some Duracell branded ones that looked very similar. Both were two flashlights for around $20-$25 with batteries.

They have a CREE bulb and the 'zoom' feature is pretty awesome, you get a super bright patch the reaches out 50-75 or more yards (with new batteries) and makes it very easy to identify whatever is going 'bump in the night'.

You might still be able to find the Feit or Duracell sets on Ebay.
