Yes, I hope that no members feel like they aren't welcome here because of any one discussion. I remember the thread that was removed, and some others that were rather heated, compared to the usual tone here. Threads are rarely removed, but when they are it is to keep the tone of certain topics from getting out of hand, personal, or harmful.

In any event, I've heard from Mark Chalkely in the past month; he mentioned that he's been quite busy, but was hoping to get some more free time soon. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Haven't heard from Glennmac in a while.

I was wondering what happened to MC myself. As for Glenmac I didn't see the thread so I don't know anything about it. This is one of the most civil forum on the internet - THE most civil one I frequent. I hate to see a few badly chosen words run somebody off.

I also wonder what happened to a guy named Eugene. More than a year ago there were some threads that had some pretty bad criticizms of particular named dealers. Mohammed removed the whole thread and a few of us (including myself) pitched a fit that he would be censoring such criticizms since if there is a bad dealer we wanted to know about it. The board went down for a few days and Eugene sent several of us an email raking us over the coals for being the cause of the demise of the board. The board came back, but I never saw any more posts by Eugene. What happened to you Eugene? We've been good since then!

I have never thought that Glennmac left because of that thread. I have always thought that he left because of the ribbing about the USS Glennmac. That seemed to be a real touchy subject to him and every one had inquiring minds about how he got it out.
This has been a very good site, without the associated junk that is on other sites. Shoot, here we can even tell about a mistake and not be cut down and made fun of like other places. Except maybe a little ribbing in fun between friends. Muhammad has created a fantastic site and it is up to us to help keep it that way.

This board has been sorely lacking in hyperpolysyllabicsesquipedalianism for several months now, so I guess I am forced out of hibernation.

Gee, thanks for asking about me. No, I wasn't scared or insulted away. The insults aimed at me by two anonymous posters were in Von's thread about a bomb planted for hunters, in which I took an animal rights position. I did feel hurt for a few days after that, but continued posting for at least a month thereafter. My safety threads were usually intended to elicit strong views on important topics and they were always civilly argued by all involved, to my recollection. No, I am not embarrassed about burying my tractor--(ahem!) twice--and having to be pulled out by (ahem!) a tow truck both times. (The driver was a wise guy. He asked if I had taken driving lessons from Gordon.)

The good news is that the only reason the tow truck could reach me was because of my wonderful double-culvert bridge that I built the same week as Harv. The bad news is that the bridge has completely disappeared. It washed partially away twice, which I repaired. Last week, it all went--14 tons of gravel and both 30" x 10' pipes completely gone and vanished downstream. I haven't located the pipes yet. All that remains are 20 70 lb. sandtubes laying in the bed. So I'll be begging for info soon on how to build a log bridge.

Why haven't I been posting? I did decide I was spending too much time online in general and on TBN in particular. Also, I got busy with some other things at work and home. Tractor ardor also cooled during this horrible, endless winter, although I did enjoy plowing with my 6' backblade.

Hope all of you have been well.

Sorry to hear about the culvert, mother nature will win let you win alot of the battles, but she will win the war! Just keep tryin and you will win.

Glad to hear all is well/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Dang, you made me have to go to the dictionary with that one./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Glad to hear all's well with you; well maybe not all if your culverts washed away./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hi Glenn, Good to see you back. I was wondering about you. I was afraid something had happened to you! We are all just mortals you know.

What span are you crossing with your bridge? What weight do you want to pass over it? I've seen a couple of homeowner bridges lately that are simply flatbed semi truck trailers with the ends mounted in cement, tires and all! Beams were welded horizontally on the bottom that stick out 3-4 feet on each side, then a triangle set up is above that to give a guard rail effect.

That's exactly what I have! The creek that I put it over is usually harmless but when we get a big rainstorm it is literally a river in the bottom of the pasture 30-40 feet across. I have had it in now for three years and it hasn't washed out. Mine's just a flatbed with no side mounts or anything. I just put old oak rough lumbar on the top of it and it works great. The horses even cross over it! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Good to see you back, Glenmac. The story about the bridge washing away really dampens my plans for a pedestrian bridge across my creek. The problem is that there is a lot of flood plain around the creek and the bridge could be under running water 2 or 3 times a year. If those culverts can survive the rushing water a wooden pedestrian bridge probably won't.
