Re: What has been the worst car you\'ve owned?
I ordered a completely loaded 1993 Chevrolet 4X4 crew cab with the 6.5 turbo diesel I outfitted it with custom full length welded steps, front and rear brush bumpers, sprayed in bed liner, huge in bed tool box and a brahma camper shell. By the time I got thru I had almost 40K in it. The transfer case would not stay in gear going up hill in 4wd, it would slip into neutral and leave you scrambling backwards in a hurry. I owned it for 380 days of that it was in the dealer being worked on every other week for 185 of those days. I took it to every dealer in town and they all had their try at fixing it, finally at the last dealer they locked it up in their service department and called me refusing to return it sighting safety issues and told me to come meet with the regional rep on Monday. I figured at last they are finally getting serious and would be giving me a new truck WRONG!!! I met with the regional rep and he slipped a check across the desk for $24,000, I produced copies of invoices for all the custom metal and everything showing him that I had almost $40K in it. Heres the grand finale folks and the reason as long as I live I will NEVER own another GM product. He said they had to take some off for depreciation since it was over a year old and if I wanted to do better than their offer I would have to sue GM. Now all I was asking for was for them to replace the vehicle with one that worked, ain't that a bust in the chops. I went to a Lemon law attorney and he assured me that he could get every penny out of it and it wouldn't cost me a dime as the settlement would cover court cost as well BUT I would have to stop using the vehicle and lock it up in a storage building for at least 2 years as GM had figured out a way to slow the justice system down on Lemon law proceedings. I'm not a rich man and this was my daily commuter and I've never been in court in my life to sue someone or otherwise. I decided not to persue it took the $24,000 and got on with my life but as long as I live I'll relate this story to everyone that will listen and I'll never own another GM product.
I now own a 99 F350 4x4 V10 gas engine but equiped the exact same way otherwise it has 114,000 miles on it and to date other then regular service it has never been in the shop.
