What have you done with/to your GC Series 2300, 2400, 1700 Tractor TODAY

Guys I had a scare today, the massey was sitting in a barn for bit, I took it out today with the ratchet rake, noticed the mmm linkage dangling down. No biggie, I figured it sagged, so I go to pull on the 3ph lever, and nothing. I look back there, and the 3ph arms are down too, of course, well duh they're interconnected! Anyways, I'm racking my brain, Peering under the seat and between the fender with a flashlight, getting all stressed out. I was just about to start unbolting crap, when I decided to google this. Google sent me to TBN, same question asked there.

Guess what...I connected the lines wrong last time I hooked up the backhoe. I connected the blue to the yellow and vise versa. So it ran fine, I was able to use loader and backhoe, but evidently it has an effect on the 3ph if you connect it wrong. Man, what a relief, I was really worried!

Lol that's definitely a pucker-worthy situation. Glad it was a simple mistake and a quick fix

Yeh! OMG, that was, uhh...how?!! I thought maybe mice got into there somehow, chewed into hydraulic line or something, I have no idea. I walked all the way back to the barn, was looking for a wet spot. No wet spot, I'm like what in the fark?!!! Tractorbynet saved the day!

The elegant way to avoid that in future would be to reverse the male and female connector on one line of back hoe....

You could also have a small metal tag (similar to a dog license tag), "BH off, do not attach" made up and attach it to the sump hose near the coupler.

But of course, if you are like me you may not even read the tag...

I'll just be more careful next time lol. I was pretty pooped that day I last reconnected the backhoe.

Anyways, things I did on the GC yesterday. Well first, I tried ripping down a hanging tree limb. That was a no-go, that sucker would just not rip off.




That was one scary widowmaker for which I was able to throw a line up and yank it down a few days prior, but now it's just hinged over there, hanging down. I'll screw with it some more down the road...at least I don't have to worry about it dropping on my head while mowing.

And then speaking of mowing, with the rains we finally got, that grass got crazy long! I know better than to use my garden tractor for mowing tall grass, I go right to the massey! Off went the hoe and loader, on went the deck. That 60" deck, man that thing is a beast, chews through anything without a care in the world, and gives such an awesome cut!

Put some hours on the backhoe this weekend. Went after 6 or so stumps all successfully.

However the Oak stump, even using the sawzall to cut all the surrounding roots, won't move. It's only about 12" across at the top of the stump. The stump was cut close to the ground, so no leverage and the BH bucket won;t go under since so many side roots. This stump won;t budge even the slightest. Have too many other projects, so will see about getting the top cut down a bit and bury or burn.

However the ones I got out make that whole area easier to mow. So I consider this kinda successful.

A few smaller/older stumps actually came out with the FEL bucket, which was nice and quick.

Made a bunch more chips from branches in prep for building a trail. Can't wait for leaves to fall to get that moving and also do some cleanout of brush in my back yard.

Man! That is the one mistake I made with my GC purchase! ...I should have gotten the 60" instead of the 54"! The 54" cuts so nice too but that extra 6" and the tractor doesn't even care the 54" is there. It laughs at it.

In other news, I mounted the gearbox today, filled it with oil and let 'r rip on the ol' PTO. And let me tell you...she hums.(I'll film it when I put the blade bar on) Speaking of the the blade bar, put it on my balancer and I've got a bit of work to do. It close but not close enough for melt liking. I guess 55 years of beating up saplings, grass and, who knows what else can put something out of balance.

Finally, My neighbor's father-in-law is a head machinist and is making up new blade bolts for me as JD wants $70+ per bolt and $25+ per nut no matter where I looked. Should be taking it to mow this weekend if everything works out as planned. (I'll video that too)
