I really don't know why the air brakes weren't locked. Since that was around 1978 who knows what I have forgotten, especially since I didn't really know what I was doing to start. I don't remember any puzzlement concerning how it might have happened, only disbelief at my 1) not giving time for pressure to build, and 2) not being able to avoid everything I managed to hit.

Drove a stick right through the headlight of my farmall 45. It only had 10 hours on it at the time.

Threw a rock up that was on the top of my stablizers and broke the corner window on the cab of my cat 420e. That one cost about $500 to replace.

Watched a guy with a skid steer lift the whole coner of a roof on a house. They were fixing the foundation and were backfilling and lifted his boom to high. It was not good lots of damage big $$$.

Many years ago. I was teaching my fifteen year old GF how to drive the tractor. Long story short, it ended up in the house!

Its funny how often it happens, watching the loader and clip something with the blade and vice versa. All you can do is laugh it off.

I ripped off fence boards probably half a dozen times (mine and my neighbors) when moving and grading dirt in my backyard (120 tons worth). Then I pinched one of the rear blinkers under my deck and ripped it off....

I used to take the mower deck off my B7800 Kubota by lifting the front end of it with a chain and a 90 HP Deere. That is until I nicked the hood on the B7800 with the bucket edge on the bigger tractor. I think it cost me $600 in parts but I just ordered them, didn't look back and never did that again.

Also, I'm likely the only person that ever hit the inside of their garage with a ROPS. When we moved we had to rent a house and barn while ours was being built. The tractor and non-folding ROPS would not fit in the garage by an inch so I let some of the air out of the tires and just barely slipped in. Rather than damage the tires by sitting underinflated I would pump them back up and you can guess the rest of the story. Luckily it wasn't very much damage.

That reminds me of the time I was trying to be lazy and use the tractor to spread dirt under the deck. I got the FEL a little too high and ripped two joint out from under the deck.

Silver lining story. We have a fairly new machinery shed with roller doors (3.3m max height when open), but manually rolling them that high is a pain. One of the doors was very stiff and wouldn't lift properly, I think the builder's apprentice may have fitted it. Long story short, I drove the tractor into a door that was open enough for the skid steer (old habit opening the door, new tractor).
Roller doors are quite flexible, so it dented a bit, and pushed out of the tracks. To put it back meant loosening the tracks, readjusting the mounting brackets and axle on the main roll, etc. So, finally, two years after the shed was built, the door finally works smoothly and easily. And it now has a powered opener that takes it all the way without relying on my memory!
As I said, sometimes the glass is half full!

Well, geee. I'd like to lie a little and say - " I've never done anything" - - but the truth is much different. I was backing up the tractor & rear blade to pull snow away from the only stall in the 5-bay carport with doors. My foot slipped off the clutch and now the doors have an all different/modified look. They still work OK - there's just a big hole where the rear blade made contact. I've left the hole there to remind myself to be a bit more careful. Its also an "opening, discussion point" for folks on their first visit to my place - ha,ha.

Forgot the ROPS was up and hit the garage at least twice, and smashed the gutter on the house. Also, with the 3910, put the bale spear through my wife's Envoy's radiator and A/C condenser. That was not a good day.

But air brakes remain locked until air pressure is applied. The brakes should have been locked until enough air pressure built up.

Some older equipment used air over hydraulic braking systems which is probably what his truck had. Most modern stuff now requires air pressure to release the brakes.
