What influence does the wife really have ????

We really try to work as a team on ALL purchases, and whatever.

On the tractor, she really was involved. But then, her baby pictures were usually showing her on equipment, so she has a little more history there than I do. Her dad was an IH and Kub dealer, and she worked there from an early age.

When I was shopping, I had my prices together, but wasn't figuring on a backhoe. She insisted on getting one, and we use it like crazy. She was also pretty serious about going Green, even though that is culturally unacceptable in her family. She gets more seat time than I do, but really we work together a lot more now that we have the new tractor....

A marriage is a parnership...Literally a business relationship as far as the law is concerned. When purchasing the new stove, dishwasher, fridge, the wife pretty much selected the features that she wanted and we both searched for the best deal.

With the tractor, I did all the leg work and research. I tried to get the smallest possible tractor to do the job. The wife says "make sure you get a big enough tractor !!!"

In the past years, when I was the bread winner, we talked about everything before we bought. It has worked out really well.
I knew there would be a day when she would make more money than me and that day is here. She is finally out of school and done with her rotations and just her first year out of school is already making 3 times more than I ever did my best year.
I quit working, stay home with the kids, do honey do's, and getting ready to build her new home. Anytime I want something I ask her and she always says that I do not have to ask her but to just get it.

When it came to the tractor she knew I had researched it to death. She told me to get the big one on my model, she signed the paperwork and wrote a check. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll bite on this thread, too.

The wife has some say in what I buy. But typically, she likes to defer to me on the major purchase issues. She influences me only a little bit . . . I admit.

As it relates to tractors, she says, "Do whatever you want. You write the checks". Therefore, if she has a strong opinion, I'll listen closely, but usually I do what I want, especially with tractor stuff.

On the other hand, I can get an earful when it relates to our children or their education! That's when we give and take a whole lot more!

What influence does my wife have ? ... A lot actually .
After 28 years , she's still my best friend and companion .
While a lot of my decisions don't involve her , or her opinion , I find that most anything that relates to OUR finances does .

What an interesting thread!

I started planting the seed about a tractor about 5 years ago. About a year ago she started asking just what kind of cash I thought it would run. I guess we finally reached a point in her eyes where we could afford it and I got the green light. (My wife handles the bills and I gladly allow her to do it. If spending were up to me we might be living in a cardboard box. She budgets wonderfully.)

Thats how we "confer." She gives me the green light. I continued the theme and got a green tractor.

A lot. Not so much as to what tractor I would buy...that would be all my decision...but as to when we both feel we can afford it. It has to be a joint decison on major purchases.

Some say it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. That leads to a lot of nights in the doghouse if you ask me.
