What Is My Tractor Worth? Private Sale.

When I decided to sell my L 4630, I was still looking for its replacement so I set the price high assuming if someone wanted to pay that much, good for me.
Over the ensuing weeks and months I received a number of offers that, in my mind, were too low.
Finally found the M and now I needed to sell the L to pay for it. By this time I had lowered my price by $5K and was at what I felt was a fair price.
Earlier in the process , before I had lowered the price, I had gotten a couple of offers at what would be the future lower price.
However, now that I had to sell asap, I was in a hard place. The next guy who called said he had cash and a trailer and would come over that day to buy.
Well he arrived ready to go and asked my best price. I came down another $1k and he said that he only had $1k less than my low number.
Well, a bird in hand... I took the cash. All in all I did ok. Basically I ran the tractor hard for 4 years, 800hrs, and got about what I had originally paid.
If you don't need to sell quickly, I would hold out for the best price. GLWS

Thanks for reply's, I'm going to hold on the 14K considering what the dealers are asking for there used tractors here, I think it is more than fair for the setup. It's hard to find local people to buy but for some reason everyone that has contacted me is within an hour. We have had a ton of snow this year and I think that's what's driving the interest in my setup..

Yes! And for anyone who doesn't remember the 'package' details ...:

Well the guy had my tractor delivered on Sunday to his house, I got a call this morning from the guys wife asking if I knew anyone that might want to buy it, I asked why he didn't like it, she said he doesn't know how to use it..

Not only did I spend two hours showing him how to use it, I actually drove to his house on Sunday behind the delivery truck and I helped to remove the blower and installed the weight box and removed the pallet forks and installed the bucket for him.

I feel terrible about it, but if he doesn't like or want to spend the time to learn how to use it, I don' feel it's my problem.

I sold him a like new very nice tractor setup, I feel bad about it..

You put it up for sale, a person bought it. Done. Don't feel bad because someone doesn't like what they bought or don't know how to use it. It's not your job to make him happy!

Now....maybe take that cash to the guys at Ocala tractor, and be sure to get a cab with A/C.

I'm going to try to forget about it.. If he calls me again, I will ignore him. He did tell me he has a bad drinking/gambling problem, I said ya okay, whatever..

I want to think that the guy will get over spending drinky dough and realize what a cool toy he has before he can find a buyer. For all we know, the poor fella was on a bender when wifey called, they'd argued about what the guy did with his time and money, and she wanted to jab at him 'while the room was hot'.

Worst case scenario: the guy sells and takes a loss, someone gets an even better deal, maybe rags it out/neglects it because "I got a deal on it." IMO, that's not 'on the seller'.

Atsah I'm guessin' how you feel, because getting a fair price supports that you took care of the '05 and it was d__n fine bit of kit that deserve to be appreciated vs squandered. If you feel bad for the guy, he'll get by. If you feel bad for that nice Massey, well .. sometimes 'it hurts to let go' not knowing whether 'to a good home'.

I DON'T want to think the buyer's wife got the worst of a deal that looked so good for both parties. I'll stand on my optimism. Brother, you get that new tractor in time and move on, ok? It'll be lucky to have you.
