America is addicted to sugar. It used to be that kids craved "sweet", and adults graduated to "savory". But probably thanks to the softdrink industry among other factors, so many adults still survive on childhood levels of sugar. Here's a peeve: food & restaurants.
We just now returned from a (good actually) highly rated restaurant just a few miles away.
Sunday brunch, but not buffet.
I like French toast so I ordered that & coffee. I wished I had my phone/camera. A platter: 6 pieces of Texas toast topped with this huge slice of the sweetest cheesecake you can imagine. Everything smothered with whipped cream all covered with confectionery sugar and maple syrup. Lord knows how many carbs & calories that was.
I ate half and feel like something blew up inside me.It did come with a bowl of fruit...only thing healthy.
Years ago restaurants served real food and why not a senior portion for less money?
Yelp does make a diff. Gave a bad review for a junk yard car part store. Some how they found my land line phone, called me and wanted some sort of retraction, if they could make it Okay with me. I was already okay, since I'd got the part from some place else. And they were saying we will give you the part for free. I had all ready bought the item - on line. Some where else, and they wasted an entire day of my life by saying and insisting they had a part that they didn't have. The Yelp review is still there. My time waiting 4 hours, and driving to the site and back, has meaning.Ten years ago my wife and I went to a local dealer to buy two new cars with cash. We were within $150 for both and sales manager wouldn't budge. We drove to another dealer 90 miles away and we got two identical better cars for less money. The salesman said he would have paid $150 of his own money to sell two new cars.
That was a lousy experience you had and I'd give them a bad review on their website.
My diabetic wife ordered a hamburger & salad...still had to take some home.America is addicted to sugar. It used to be that kids craved "sweet", and adults graduated to "savory". NIH recommends no more than 30 g per day, which would net under 11 kg per year, but we're averaging almost 8x that amount:

Back in the 70s was passing thru Texas panhandle on a road trip and saw a billboard offering a steak dinner for free if you could eat it all. Forget if it was 60 or 72 oz. I'm guessing it came with multiple sides that you had to finish as well.Your in Texas, right? Only place I ever got a 60 oz steak![]()

I've always had a big appetite, but even in my 20s (which I was at the time) not sure I could have done it. Wasn't hungry at the time I saw the BB anyway.
