Not a pet peeve, just a peeve:
I was sitting at my desk this morning and watched my mailman back into my mailbox TWICE. First time, he had pulled up parallel to it (as if to be delivering something), then pulled forward about a car length, then backed up with his steering wheel turned right.
I guess he thought he was past the drive and was going to turn around, but wasn't even close to far enough past the drive to back in.
After hitting it with his right rear (and breaking out the tail light) he turned the wheel to the left, pulled out into the street, then backed up and hit it AGAIN. Stopped, got out, walked around looking at the vehicle. Pulled forward one more time and finally had room to back into the drive to turn around.
Fortunately, the box was only secured to the top of the post with two deck screws. One screw broke and the box just turned 90 degrees. Not much damage to the box, just a scuff.
Thinking about leaving it secured with a single screw in case it happens again....
PS No mail was left in the box...
