What is some of your Pet Peeve's

My wife and I stopped at a fast food place on the intestate and ordered hamburgers with ONLY ketchup. Back out on the interstate we found out we got everything BUT ketchup. We did eat them. I had occasion to stop at the place again weeks later. I ordered my food, paid for it, and then asked to talk with the manager. I explained what happened and suggested if they could just throw an apple pie in my order, life would be good. I got several pies and supersized fries.

Worked for me.

...asked to talk with the manager.
I worked in fast food for a year or two around age 15-16, and I don't envy those managers. Wrangling a gang of a dozen horney teenagers after school is like herding cats. All of us had our minds more on whether we'd coax Hope or Emily out of their bra during our next break in the storage loft, than getting anyone's order right! :ROFLMAO:

On the sandwich topic, a pet peeve is when I order a sandwich with just one specific condiment on it, like catsup or barbecue sauce, and they put catsup, mustard , pickles, onions, lettuce, and or mayo on it. Several times I can watch he person making it put the wrong condiments on it, and when they give it to me I hand it right back and tell them to check it. They dump it in the trash and tell the employee to make it again correctly this time. I can't stand most of the garbage they put on sandwiches, especially pickles and mayo. I'd rather have them plain.
One thing I like about chains like Subway or Jersey Mikes is that they make it right in front of you, not in the back room or along the back wall where you can't see what they're doing. Easy to catch it if they don't do it right. Once had a "sandwich artist" put mayonnaise on mine, when I called her on it she insisted that I told her I wanted it. Refused to back down. Walked out. Don't recall her lasting there long. :ROFLMAO:

Mayonnaise on a sandwich is a peeve of mine anyway. A few years ago Shaw's supermarkets had some fried chicken sandwiches which were awesome...except they were pre-made and all had mayonnaise on them. You could get them to make you one without, but it was inconvenient since they had to get a patty out of the freezer, deep-fry it, then assemble it.
I wish places didn't assume that everyone likes that condiment.

Not quite sure what you're getting at (or what it has to do with Europeans). I love onions, most sandwich shops tend to skimp on them, but overload you with tomatoes which I don't particularly care for. And places that just assume you want mayonnaise on it. If I wanted a one size fits all sandwich, I'd get a premade one at the supermarket for half the price.

Europeans seem to love to write online articles on how we Americans do pretty much everything "wrong".
a simple chicken on baguette (fresh lettuce, homemade mayo) in an out of the way place in France will have you agree we do things wrong.

But there are American places that do it right.
a real Italian deli with fresh baked bread using the best flour, fresh farm grown veggies and fresh cooked/smoked meats makes a huge difference.

Easier to get these in most of europe, but hard here with packaged bread, veggies from a factory and meat that is so processed that it's unrecognizable.

And it's almost impossible and outrageously expensive to get good Jamon (Ham in Spain) here to make a real meal, vs the salt laced ham from the store.

Subway, made fresh with ingredients that are about as fresh as the bricks the store is made from.

I haven't been in a Subway in more than a decade.
First time I went I ordered an assorted. I was surprised to see the meat was already laid out on wax paper and they just flip it on the bun. And the cold cuts were stuck together. That's how fresh they were.o_O
Other things like chicken, beef are already in premeasured little paper trays.
I will never eat there.

Best cardboard sandwiches in town! I haven't been to one in many years, probably never again.

My coworkers Uncle owned a few Subways, we could get sandwiches for free. We did once and never went back.
My coworker could not understand why we didn't want any more free sandwiches and would pay to go somewhere else .
Their "fresh baked" bread makes Wonderbread look artisanal

I’m a few years younger than you, and agree that Subway is far from fresh or good, but I have a nostalgia for it due to putting myself thru college on that crap. I haven’t been to one in more than 5 years, but there are occasions when it fits the bill.

On the flip side, one thing I’ve grown to appreciate as I’ve aged is good bread. It’s gone from just being the mechanism for holding the meats and veggies, to something I actually look forward to, when it’s done well. Of course, you won’t get that at Subway!

I remember that, they don't do that anymore. Still not the highest quality ingredients, but not many other options where I live. We'll go there once in a while if there's a coupon, too expensive otherwise. Not paying $12 for a takeout sandwich.

One advantage (one of the few) to living in/near a city is access to more/better places to eat out.

Well, you lost me there with mayonnaise. Yuck. :ROFLMAO:
Maybe it's different where you live, but it's hard to find a place like you mention anymore, sub-making seems to be a lost art. Most of the mom & pop places are long gone...mom & pop retired/died and the kids weren't interested taking over. The small corner store delis that still do subs aren't much better than getting a premade one at the supermarket. It's pretty much a chain place or nothing.
Even the "artsy" places that hype the whole farm to table thing can't seem to make a decent sub.

On the flip side, one thing I’ve grown to appreciate as I’ve aged is good bread. It’s gone from just being the mechanism for holding the meats and veggies, to something I actually look forward to, when it’s done well.
Agree on that, most sub rolls just seem to be oversized hotdog buns made from white bread. Maybe the bakeries that used to make the "good" rolls have also gone away? Hard to find a good sub roll even in a supermarket.
I personally don't have an issue with Subway's bread.
