What is some of your Pet Peeve's

I remember my first two years of being a homeowner very well. There were months I had to decide whether I was going to repair the chimney or eat something better than Ramen Noodles the next 30 days. But where there's a will, there's a way.
An untimely drop in property values, just after I had bought my first house, made my small lots of land hard to sell. Had counted on them paying for a chunk of the house.

Oh well, with a mortgage just about twice of my monthly income I knew it'd be a couple of tough years. Bought cars and fixed them up, did some odd side jobs, etc.

At one point my soon to be ex said "Why don't we ever go anywhere, and why are you always working?".

It all worked out in the end, and now being used to generating extra money I kept going until the house was paid off. And she had her share, and the alimony ended.

Just like Millennials whining they can never afford a house, while sipping their second $7 coffee of the day and staring at their $1400 iPhone on a $100/month contract. Their coffee and phone expenses alone are half a mortgage payment.

Coffee is usually free at work, and while not lovingly prepared by your personal barista, it got the job done for many years. An older model phone on a $15/month plan also gets the job done, when you're willing to prioritize.
I'm lucky, I could never stand the taste of coffee, but have a Diet Coke addiction instead.

You nailed that right on the head. What makes a phone worth that kind of money, what does it do that a lot cheaper phone doesn't do? Right....it 'looks' good.

R&D and components cost money, so I understand the cost. But it's a luxury item, and what folks don't seem to get today, is that not everyone needs luxury items. You certainly can't prioritize them over building your nest egg, the first step of which is usually your primary residence.

How different is it from older generations, substituting cigarettes and beer/booze for expensive coffee and expensive cellphone? Wasted money there too.

Why do some people feel they need to insert facts into a perfectly good discussion? 😜
There are and always have been all sorts of things for people to waste their money on. The state makes a lot of money off them...

It's different because Millennials have somehow received the badge as "the first generation to not own a home", and the almost-continuous stream of whining that they will be the first generation not better off than their parents. It seems to me they not making less, but priorities are shifting from an ownership culture to a subscription culture, and fewer are willing to defer luxuries until later in life.

What's both amusing and confounding is that home ownership among Gen Z (younger) is actually higher than among Millennials, refuting all claims that some sort of barrier to home ownership has prevented them from owning a home. Why is this one particular generation doing so much worse than all before and after them?

My Friends Kids, all early 30's. 4 homeowners, 2 renters.
My niece and nephew (late 20's) both rent, that is the market they are in. Niece could probably afford a house without too much trouble. Neither are married yet.

If they don't get married soon they will have a house with a new car in the garage and a boat in the driveway. :ROFLMAO:

They mostly all run the same iOS, so what is the attraction to the latest model? Our eyes can’t distinguish between 12 and a bazillion megapixels. I aim for two models back when replacing.
