Yes, you can put two cylinders in parallel. That is what I am doing in my design because it is more cost effective. Ken
Yep, 4" and under cylinders are relatively inexpensive. Any bigger gets expensive.

Don't ever split wood with a skid steer. The 3,000 psi and high flow will spoil you.

Here is a video of the of the huge ones.

I don't think 5" will push that. Mine has a 5x36 cyl and can get bogged in a gnarly yellow birch or beech. Don't you hate it when someone steals your stuff? Grrr Jim Edit - saw your 2x4 idea after I was typing. Someone must have a chart for force req per wedge count. Maybe w two cyls you want one of those hybrid jobs with wood being pushed both ways across a horizontal wedge with 3-4 dividing wedges under it. Or : Dad's Wood Splitter: The first Tempest Trailered Unit built - YouTube Jim
That's actually exactly what I want. I saw that video about a year ago and I have wanted one ever since. I hadn't been able to find it again. I plan on it being only a single way ram, but with higher flow.

I wonder how that big hunk of wood was lifted up onto the splitter? I like the way stationary wedges push the wood beyond the splitter, but you can't use them vertically for large pieces you can't lift without breaking your back.

He usually rolls them off a wagon, but he has another tractor with a loader that isn't powering the splitter. My splitter will be vertical only with a log lifter and I won't be using my loader tractor to power it so I can use it to move wood.

Cut them over a wagon so you don't have to break your back! You don't need a tractor to lift the rounds and no back breaking bending over with a vertical split either!

Even my wife can roll them on the splitter, (BTW, she loves to run this splitter!)

If needed, it's easy to roll/slide the top half over, back on the beam and run it through the splitter again,

Crotches, knots and everything easily else goes right through the 4-way!

NO wimpy splitter here! lol

Multi split wedges require lots of force. My curret splitter has a 6way adjustable wedge and a 5in bore cyl. it will pretty much split anything I can put on it, includeing knots and forks. The big problem with a box wedge like the one you posted is wood jamming in the wedge. I fyou are wonting sq splits, I would suggest taking a look at the tempest wood splitters. Tempest EF-3 Wood Splitter - YouTube, they split wood in both directions and you end up with sq splits.

Th processor I started a couple of years go, but havent finished due to health reasons, uses twin 4.5in bore cyl..1210151640.jpg and a 12way circle wedge.1214151754.jpg Capable of 30in dia rounds. The wedge will be height adjustable so I can center on the rounds and hopefully not end up with a bunch of splinters.. wish I had it finished since I have taken several years to round up parts and spent a bunch of money. Looks lake this last surgery will probably put me in retirement so maybe I can get back to the build in a few more months.
