What is the difference between a dresser and a dozer

I gave permission to a number of our neighbors that they can take quads across the property. Problem is that I do indeed love that free swinging feeling and at 210lbs it is not a pretty sight. I am now trying to create 3 quad trails that would alter their course around the property and not across my driveway and next to my house.

This is exactly what I thought as well until I saw an ad for a dresser without a manufacturers name attached.

Gotta love learning something new.

I always thought "dresser" referred to a small dozer which is used to dress up and finish grade work that a larger dozer would not be right for. You can take a small dresser (D3 or so) and back blade a grade and really make it look nice where as a D7 or something large would just be too much.

In spite of the Dresser brand I still think in bulldozer talk a dresser is a little one that is used for finish work.

I've always heard small dozers like my D3 called finish dozers or cleanup dozers. Most of the old timer dozer operators around here called the Dressers by the old International name for years after the company was sold. I really liked the TD 15 that I ran for a bit and at times really wish I had gotten it instead of the D4 H that I ended up with. It was more the weight and power of a D6C or D6D(but not the price). The D4 sure uses less fuel per hour though.
