You are right about the remote controls.........it just seems like (to me) in the early eighties they were really getting more and more common,I installed a window air conditioner for an old man who has breathing problems and he does not have to get out of his chair to adjust the temp.he just uses the remote.

Uh... Frank? and Tony C?? I had owned at least two PC's before the window of "the last 20 years" opened. I'm thinking the first PC's were even outside of the last 25 years.

I third the vote for GPS, but must note that the first satellites were launched in 1978. We may be confusing the PC with the microprocessor(sp). The little chip is what does the work and any way the first ANALOG computer was introduced in1952. The K2-W computing op-amp. Still if it wasnt for the internet and the micro chip in my PC I would not be able to look up this trivial infirmation in 2 minutes.

Actually I am terribly dissapointed with our progress. Ok, the PC is all nice and everything, but we have not been back to the moon in 30 years, we build memorials rather than the future, we never finished Mt Rushmore even at that, when was the last "Golden Gate" scale project undertaken? The Segway is like Moronic /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.
When I can go to K-mart and buy a surfboard that flys on anti-gravity waves---Y'all, let me know or a time displacing wrist watch. I am bored with the world as it is, other than that--the cell phone. J

Gary : guess u are right, but was just thinking in my time frame of hearing about pc's. kinda like the 1st vcrs, beta or vhs? blank tapes cost about $22.00 each if i remember correctly. bet there are some folks on here that are thinking what the dickens was a beta tape? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif now even the vcr is headed for the scrap heap.

GPS and PC's are great, but this time of year I'd be tempted to vote for the string trimmer. Can't imagine being without one, unlike my cell phone.

How about the LaserJet printers. Certainly make my life more enjoyable (at least at work). I think all they had 20 years ago were those pin printers with TRACTOR feed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Back when I was in the lawn service (1980), I had string trimmers -- so there is another product that pre-dates the 20-year threshold.

There have been alot of improvements on existing products/ideas, but as far as NEW stuff -- we are having a hard time coming up with those.

Everyone will have their concept of "Greatest" considering what they feel has been important to them.

Me; I figure some of the new medications developed are the greast thing going.

Then tere is also the option of worst thing developed in the last 20 years.
